David:

Network update: the campus network people tested
out the Cogent connection, it failed because they
had forgotten to put in a fiber converter somewhere.
Now they're saying Wednesday.
Keep fingers crossed!

On the SETI@Home main web page:

? May 20, 2002 ?
OUTAGE UPDATE: There will be several network outages on Wednesday, May 22nd. The first is at 12:30 GMT, and may last upward to two hours. The second is at 15:30 GMT, and may last up to an hour. There will be a final short outage later in the afternoon. We are upgrading our network connection and reorganizing the server closet during these outages, and both the data server and the web site will be unavailable at these times. We'll take pictures of the whole procedure.

Sounds like it is a good idea to get those SetiQs loaded with WUs!

I'm also planning to change my Q's connect times so it won't attempt to connect while Berkley is down.

Thanks for the heads-up Dave!

dmcowen674: Hope things go smooth. It would be nice to put this bandwidth thing behind us and get back to normal. Thanks for the heads up, David.

Looks like SETI 2 is getting closer to reality! Will they start from scratch and reset all the counter to zero? Will all of you be willing to start over with a new project, assuming that is what happens? As a TeAm we would have an advantage since we are already one of the top producing teams.

Good question JW

It would be a difficult decision wether to continue or not. Look at it this way, I would have 0 points in SETI 2, 0 points in F@H etc - so each would be starting from afresh. One of my main arguments for not starting other projects when I am 'established' in SETI is that it takes a while to get some points to your name! 🙂

I also like the large community surrounding SETI here. Wether or not I 'did' SETI 2 would also be down to wether enough members switched over aswell.

We would start off SETI 2 at #4 in the World. That's where we are destined to be ... it would just happen immediately if there was a restart. 🙂

Edit Current time is 7:10 CDT or 12:10 GMT so the first scheduled outage starts in 20 minutes. I suggest you put your Qs in DO NOT TRANSMIT mode. 😉

Lol, I just dawned on me why I couldn't connect to upload results! Never mind, it'll remind me to remember things I read in future.😱😱

I'd stick with SETI either way. I'd prefer they keep the stats but if not I'd be willing to start over. It would be worse for me personally but better for the TeAm. 🙂

grrr...I guess another outage is occurring right now. I was in the middle of downloaded a new WU...hope it doesn't screw up something. 🙂

Woohoo! ,big pipe here we come 😀

Btw Re SETI2 ,I'll definatly run it ,but I would prefer it to leave the WU counts as they are ,if they reset them I would never get back into the Top 60 of TA again 😉...........then again if they did reset them at least I could claim I was once in the Top 100 & also they would be the fun of racing up the charts again!😉😀
