I've got a road trip coming up.

I'm sure music is one answer...but what kind?

Any other suggestions?

Well, the driving portion is about 24 hours...the entire trip will probably take me a good 30 (once you account for speed limit correction ;)) - Link

It's 24 hours on paper, which is more like 18 in practice, and 30 with rest stops.

an inverter, laptop, dvds, games, a second driver, music you havent heard in years, gas can full of gas in case you see someone who is out, water, snacks, books on tape or cd, change for the tolls, spare key wired up under your vehicle in case you lock yourself out in your exhausted state.

I once did about 8-9 hours of driving in a day, after only having gotten ~4 hours of sleep in the past two days...let's just say I won't be doing that again :p

Even if you are well-rested at the beginning of the trip, I would still not recommend doing that much driving all at once ;)

Apparently if you take 15 minute naps every 6 hours, you're good for 35 hours of driving.
Also, 200mg or so of ceffeien IIRC is good to perk you up (dunno how much coffee that is).
^^From a psychology textbook.

DANGGGGG no SO is a real bummer.

And that album is a horrible suggestion, IMO.

I'd take my 40GB iPod w/ enough styles on it to fit the mood for 24 hours. Typically I like a couple hard-rockin' albums, then some soft stuff, then some indie stuff, & repeat

I imagine it's quite difficult getting up from those 15 minute naps after a while.

You really should break it up into two 12 hour trips with a night at a cheap motel in between. Really, it's worth the time and the money to go to the motel. Imagine how expensive totalling your car would be not to mention the possibility of serious injury to yourself. You might think that the probabilty of an accident is low, but when you're exhausted and can barely keep your eyes open it increases dramatically. Your chances of getting a ticket for bad driving also increase. Whatever savings you'd get by not going to a motel just isn't worth it. Driving on the Interstate near the speed limit is just awful if you can barely keep your eyes open and you're ready to nod off, especially at night.

Driving tired is just as bad or worse than driving drunk.

uhh... you're not really planning to drive 24 hours straight, are you?

...cause that would just be idiotic.

But if it's impossible to convince you otherwise, adderall should get you through okay. 50 mg (XR) over 24 hrs should be more than enough.
