I'll comment again:

Definitely go the Sport club route if you can...you will not be sorry. Almost every Sport club gym I've been all have:

- tons of free weights, basketball (most have multiple full courts), lap pool, spa, sauna, climbing wall, loads of bikes treadmills.

the Sport club in Corona, CA is especially huge. Three or four college football teams could work out in there and place still wouldn't be crowded. Every LA Fitness I've been to was packed, had poor equipment and not enough free weights.

Most regular 24hr fitness places are packed like tuna too though...so watch out.

I pay 45 dollars a month for my wife and I, my company picked up the down payment. I wouldn't be surprised if many of your guy's companies don't have some kind of program or incentive.

rayman- I think most of these comments about 24 Hr Fitness are very accurate regarding their sales tactics, etc. I tried asking them about the 90 days for $90 (is that the deal off the website?) and the CSR kept on saying it was no longer valid (why keep it on the web site then?). Boy did I feel pressured to pick a plan.. like the guy felt impatient, tried to run a plan a second through my head and punched out numbers on his little calculator at an incredible rate. If someone ever tried using those tactics to sell a car, they'd never get anywhere. As it is, gym memberships aren't cheap and they're a considerable investment for most folks. I know not much can be done to fix the way the CSRs try to make sales, but that's just my little complaint there.

minimunch- You're right about Sport clubs being the better ones to join. I've never visited a regular 24 hr fitness during peak hours, but I can imagine it gets crowded as heck. Some sport ones are obviously larger than others (i.e. the one near Irvine Spectrum is humongous to me compared to the one in Costa Mesa/Newport), but overall I think those are the best ones to go for. Anyone here even have the sporting club membership? (for the "exclusive".. hehe)

I don't know how you guys are managing to get more than 2 adults on the 3year membership... I was there just a few weeks ago and the guy told me that it can only be 2 adults... you can add more if the they are under 21 like your kids are so.

<-- Two more for the bay area. Not sure if this will work, but what salesman couldn't resisit cutting a deal with a dozen of potential customers? :)
