Most decent shows that are serialized like 24 are usually all written before the new season starts. It's kind of hard to set up a filming schedule and special effects ahead of time and a budget when you have no clue where you are going for a script. The only cop shows I like are 24, Monk or Dexter.

Shows such as Stargate: Atlantis know exactly what episodes are cheaped out to save money, and what episodes are going to cause them a financial fit, budget wise. They basically steal from one episode to budget an expensive one, or a season finale, for instance. Such as the recent one where they all lost their memories. Actually, their budget was what they lost from the previous seasons cliffhangers. In cheap-o episodes like this, the writers jobs are very critical to keep the story moving, with little special effects added to keep the action going. I think even Stargate was canceled to make more financial room for better Atlantis special FX. It seems like this season has a lot more FX per episode than last season, on average. But we will have to see what happens down the road.

And since 50% of must NOT see crap TV involves some sort of recycled and reconstituted love the corp./lawyer/cop/govt. type of shows, I think these boring, dried up, politically correct hack writers are overpaid for the stinking garbage they dish out from episode to episode. Not to mention the obvious fact these are all feel good 1984 style govt. P.C. varieties of brainwashing shows. I hope all these putrid hack writers and their vile corporate thug sponsors are buried in the ratings forever by Cartoon Network and TV Land reruns. I'm off to watch the Walton's reruns on Hallmark!

no, the writers are involved even if its a fx heavy episode. but yes some shows do have "cheap" episodes.
they won't bring in scabs for these shows because they don't want quality decline or bad blood and eventual death of a good show.
easier to shutdown than to bleed money paying everyone while they sit around waiting.

24 needs a break to freshen up. its a good thing so no complaints there.

Bring back Sheriff Lobo!

I agree with running the old X-Files from episode 1. That would be awesome! I was just thinking about picking up the entire series.

WHYYYYY

At least Battlestar Galactica will still air... RIGHT?!
---Edit: Apparently BG has 10 of 22 shows completed/written, and it just so happens to end at a cliff hanger, and it just so happens to be at the point where the network cuts the season in half for a break anyways. So perhaps there will be a slightly longer break between the 2 sections... but stilll.... ugh that and 24 are all I watch in winter.

I don't. It probably was their money grubbing piece of shit unions that made them strike.

Who honestly calls story writing a profession anyway? It's all shit, and people watch the shows for immediate entertainment, these idiots shouldn't even claim they "do a hard days work."

Meh, I got 360 and PC games to beat. I really wasn't going to watch it anyways, season 5 was the last half decent season...

Who said Lost is canceled? Lost actually has comparatively few problems, they already have like 9 scripts written.

WTF is wrong with these studios. The writers make jackshit compared to the actors and everyone else involved. It's not like their demands are crazy either. They just want their fair share. I'm all for the writers, FUCK THE GREEDY ASS STUDIOS. They are gonna hurt bigtime for this.

Despite your hotheadedness, I'm inclined to agree with you.

The writers are the creative force driving the show. It's a shame many writers are poorly compensated.

I haven't watched TV since about 2001/2002.

It sucks your favorite TV shows are in reruns and stuff, but I know if you put your mind to it, you'll find other hobbies, and they will probably be more productive. :)

I have no problem with a writer demanding more money if he / she is worth it, but I hate damned unions with a passion. This is a great opportunity for people to get out and do something other than watch TV, maybe read a book or two, play with the kids, whatever.

Fire all the writers, I'm sure there are plenty of other people who'd want to take a shot at it, some of them might be pretty decent. Fire them all, fill the air with good reruns of old shows (I can see some of those shows I never had time to watch!) or reality junk.

Considering how crappy TV is nowadays, is it really a bad thing that the writers are on strike?

 GOOD

The last season was great until the last 1/4 at which point it UNFORGIVABLY went to sh*t. I hope they never renact the show. It would have been merely 6 hours too late but better than nothing. Let's forget 24 now can we?

How many writers on 24 can you say by name? I can mention...uh, oh yeah none.

Uh oh, people are going to be without their electronic nipple for a while.

Oh the horrors.

Am I the only one that thinks TV going south for a little bit is a good thing?

No.

Not really. I hate jon stewart repeats but otherwise couldn't care much less.

I've never seen 24 and I doubt I'm missing out on much. I can no longer stand watching big network TV.

Just heard about this. Yeah the cancellation sucks but you've got alternatives. Try Showtime's "Sleeper Cell" on DVD, I got mine from the library. There were only 2 seasons and it's more character based than action based compared to 24, but still a good show. Also remember there are several 24 novels that have been released. I read the first one a couple months ago- it wasn't as good as the show but still good. But I'd first recommend reading any of Dan Brown's novels- Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, and Deception Point (Digital Fortress was just OK). They're all awesome and very fast paced, 24 fans should like them. I'd recommend getting the audiobook of Da Vinci Code- there's a smattering of foreign language used in that book and you'll get to hear how it's supposed to actually sound, plus the narrator did a pretty good job with the characters' voices. Check your library, at mine they had both the Mp3 CD and standard audio cd versions.

Daily Show fans can get a temporary fix from the books- I got the audiobook of America: Democracy Inaction from the library and it was funny and read by Stewart, Samantha Bee, and the others

I wanna know why Keifer can't get the same kind of "deal" that the skanks aka Paris, Lindsey, Nicole, and Britney all got ?

Surely it can't be because they are good looking or something akin to that ... :Disgust;
