Stopped reading right there. Its IBM Notes, you silly consultant!
My splash screen still says "IBM Lotus Notes" but we are only on version 7. Either way, it is still horrendous.
The entire Microsoft suite right now (Office, Sharepoint, Dynamics, Team Foundation) is fucking unbelievable. It's so good! I wish their marketing teams didn't suck.
Microsoft is where you want to be right now for enterprise software(ES) with the exception of CRM, and HR. Once they get those squared away the whole package will be insanely good for the price. The level of integration and ease of programming is simply unheard of elsewhere.
One of the biggest issues with ES is sustainability. Companies like Sage and Infor make decent products, but they don't have the R&D capability or bankroll that Microsoft does. Microsoft has the resources to compete on price and functionality AND you know they are never going out of business. It's only a matter of time before they lose market share. S&P and Oracle are still the huge ERP players but don't have near the market momentum and mainly rely on support contracts to survive. BI is the next big market but it is in it's infancy right now.
It's a shame that the marketing sucks as bad as it does at Microsoft. Maybe they should partner with Apple to make the software seem white, shiny, and cool?
That reminds me, I need to get back to my firings for the day
