Seriously. The reconstructions of him look a lot like my dad, beard and all, LOL! ^_^

Scared Jesus?

These reconstructions look a bit less like dad, though.

Fortunately, I don't look a lot like my dad, and I look more like my mom's side of the family.

I registered on the last day they were still testing last year for genetic markers for diseases, too, before the FDA shut them down for a reevaluation of their methodology.

I'm still waiting on some of my other genealogy data to be compiled.

Any other distant relatives out there in ATOT that I don't know about? :colbert:

I looked at that site and it's kind of neat. I wonder if that would make a good gift

They had a buy one get one free offer at the time, and mine was a gift, so I think so.

And once they get their issues with the FDA sorted out, I'm sure they will add the medical genetic findings back into the results, too.

It's pretty popular around here as a gift.

...and when I say around here, I guess I mean amongst my colleagues--all population geneticists and some of whom now work for 23andMe doing all of the SNP calling.

I still haven't done it though--no idea why not. It is a super awesome service

Hmmm. Looks pretty interesting. Is it worth the $100? I watched a couple YouTube videos and one person said that it was similar to reading your horoscope (regarding the disease results) in that is was pretty generalized.

I sent in my swab sometime last year, and it was still while they did the disease susceptibility stuff (thankfully nothing there really to worry about)

I thought it was neat. I enjoyed seeing the neanderthal percentage and haplogroups, those are interesting. I'm in the same paternal line that Stephen Colbert has, and the same maternal line as Benjamin Franklin and Bono. Neato.

These were my results:

I took the National Geographic's Geno 2.0 DNA test last fall. It was kind of interesting and dispelled a family myth that we have Cherokee ancestry (doesn't everyone?). Strictly European - mostly Northern Ireland. No surprises other than the complete lack of Native American ancestry. My sister who thinks she's a Cherokee princess and has all this Native American brick-a-brack and tacky paintings all over her house was not amused. :D

Lol yea it reminds me of Eva Longoria when she was brought on that show "Finding Your Roots"

"Of Mexican heritage and fiercely proud of it, Eva Longoria Parker always thought her ancestral makeup was mostly Mexican-Indian with a smattering of European blood. But she discovered that the opposite is true, among other surprising revelations, when she agreed to participate in the four-part PBS series Faces of America, which debuts Feb.10.

As one of 12 celebrities of various backgrounds who agreed to have their DNA tested for the series, hosted by historian, author and Harvard scholar Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr., Longoria Parker was "a little shaken" to learn that she’s actually 70% European, 27% Asian/indigenous, and 3% African."

Don't hold your breath on that. The FDA hoops are numerous and difficult, I suspect they'll have to get approval for every single snp. Not that I've followed this too closely.
