I'm thinking about getting a 8800 GTS since my X800XL just died. I don't know though if my PSU will be able to handle this, will 22A do the job?

FWIW I had the 550 W seasonic (with 4 12V rails, 41A total) and it died with my C2D and 8800 GTX. I'm now using an Antec Trio 650.

22amps on 12v is only a 300 watt psu on the new atx 2.03 spec.

you probably should invest in something a bit more beefy. the 8800gts uses around 11 amps by itself.

Hm, would you think a Seasonic SS-401HT (400W) would suffice? 29A in total, and I will only be using one DVD drive, a single core CPU and one, maybe two HDs. I heard a lot of good stuff about this PSU and it's been highly recommended in some German silencing forum, which is usually quite reliable (but those guys don't use GeForce 8800s ;) )

PS: My brother's X1900 XT runs fine in my system, been testing is for a couple of hours now. It draws 9-10A in Flight Simulator X, and more than 20A and up to 30A in the ATI Tool "Scan for Artifacts"? Is it really drawing that much power?

i think the seasonic would be fine.

the x1900xtx (so a little bit more than the XT) actually is probably only 10 watts or so shy of an 8800gts at load so its a close approximation
