I'm looking to get a 226bw by the end of the month. thing is....I want to get a Samsung "S" panel for *sure.*

Probably will go Circuit City, but they won't let me open up to box before purchase. Completely understandable.

Anyways...those of you lucky enough to get this panel from CC....have there been any "A" panels....or are the "A" panels an 'only outside the US' kind of thing.

Thanks for feedback!

I am very curious about this. I am also looking for a S version samsung LCD.

I have been thinking about ordering one from Newegg, it just seems that it has been a mixed bag of people getting A or S versions.

how do you tell the difference between them? I work at best buy and we carry them there, and I want to be able to tell which we have.

Backlight MIGHT be slightly better on S panel, maybe less banding. Some have said otherwise. More a myth and paranoia, it's a TN panel, that's what you'll get. Some problems I see from 'hard' are exactly TN symptoms.

Samsung is shipping two versions of the 226bw with panels from two different manufactures. The "S" version denotes the use of a Samsung panel, and the "A" version uses an AU Optronics panel.

From searching around the forums it seems like people that complain about the LCD usually have the AUO version.

At the end of the top line: Model : 226BW [R] A <-- this will be either a S or an A to denote the two version.

Fixed:p

Honestly, go over to hardocp forums and some people are complaining about the A before they even have it. It's being blown out of proportion cause 'he' said it was worse so 'she' said it must also be worse. Just the classic people says it looks like sh!t so they must go search and nitpick every bit. I Personally, I really do have more confidence in Samsung's quality and manufcaturing, but they can't be that much worse. Nothing to merit 4/5 returns cause "omfg, it's an A, I haven't even plugged it in yet, but it's an A!!!!". I feel bad for the stores having to sell those as open box or ship them back to the supplier.

I totally agree with that. It probably is getting blown way out of proportion. But since I'm thinking about picking up one of these displays, I'm still gonna do my best to try to get an Samsung manufactored panel.

I went to Fry's over lunch, and they had the 226BW setup on display...I opened the back panel, and it was a 226BW A...not sure if this means all of them are A panels.

Is there any way to check the panel from the outside of the box on the serial number sticker typically found on most electronic components? I dont think the store will let me open boxes until I find an S panel.
