i have now done the vdd mod and this allowed me to raise my fsb from 211 ro 220
but now i think my mem is holding me from 230
lowering the mem timings to 3-3-3-7 did not help
my vdimm is at 2.9v which is the max for my abit nf7-s

i fear that doing the vdimm mod and raising it any higher might damage my memory

what is the max safe vdimm you guys would recommend for winbond bh-5 chips ??

I do believe that the NF7 overvolts to about 3.1 when set at 2.9... you may want to look into that. How much Vdd are you giving it?

Much more Vdimm than 3.1/3.2 is pretty shady IMO.

i am running at about 1.9v on vdd

i think my mem is getting hot
cause i just noticed that the system wasn't fully stable with 2.9vdimm so i lowered it to 2.8v and the system is stable
odd

Mine will run at 233... that's as high as the 1005 BIOS will let me set it... if you don't believe me, I'd be happy to take some WCPUID screens =)

WCPUID Screenshot

I have to run my RAM at 75%, which gives me 175 Mhz, and I can't run the timings any tighter, so I just leave it at 200 where the RAM will run in sync.

i have no reason to not believe anyone

but yeah i wasn't trying for async operation

anyways my windows 2000 installation went corrupt on me
i'm sick of this crap
i don't feel like sitting around for 3 or 4 hours reinstalling windows and drivers
so i dunno maybe next week i'll do this junk again

seeya all then

till then i'm stuck on my gf's P2 laptop

3 hours??? man, what hard drive do you have??? it should only take like... <30 minutes to install windows and if you have RAID setup up, even FASTER than that...

install windows at default settings to prevent corruption...

Soulkeeper,

How is your OS getting corrupted with the AGP/PCI lock in place?

I thought that prevented those types of things...

Your just pushing TOOO far...

Leave the memory @ 2.8v and Vcore around 1.8 and 1.9 if you want to be agressive...

If you can't do it there, it's not going to do it at all...

BTW Jeff, link is not working.

i found the vdimm voltage check point on the motherboard and 2.9 does not overvolt to the 3.1
but it does overvolt slightly to like 2.95 or 2.96

yeah takes me forever to install because i have to download drivers/programs and take my time installing them (i'm a slow mofo)

the os became corrupted because there is a file that loads during boot inwhich reads and writes are made to
corruption of this file does not just relate to hard drives running on an overclocked pci bus but also from memory or even cpu instability

thanks for all the input guys

i'm running happy and stable at 214fsb for now
i think i am going to get a new psu
i've narrowed it down to the psu holding me back after paying close attention to the voltage rails
raising the vdimm .1v spikes the vcc and lowers the other rails a large amount
if only my psu had adjustment pots

ohh well pc power and cooling here i come !!!

almost forgot here's some benchmarks for you all:

214x10.5 1.74v 2255mhz
2-2-2-6 2.65v 6:5 178mhz
vdd 1.80v
sisoft
mem 2675/2509
cpu arith 8434/3389
cpu mult 12141/13325
29c 41.5c
3dmark2k3 1789 300/621

I wouldn't try anything ... unless you have H2O setup..

I recently bought TwinMOS PC3700 (the 4.3ns stuff) to see if I could get more using the 5/6 divider.
(thats 194 CPU fsb / 433 mem fsb)

Turns out no matter how much voltage I added to the Chipset, at 230,,, Id BSOD in 3d apps.
(just like it did without my pencil volt mod, I volted up to ~2.1v briefly)

The TwinMOS PC3700 memory wouldnt post at defualt. (433 using 5/6 at 194/433 w/any vDIMM settings)
(would post up to 220 dual ,,, like my Corsair,,, but at looser timings (i lost bandwidth))

So ,,, in my mind,,, I think the NB is overloaded at 230
(wont handle DC above 223, and at 230 BSOD in 3d SC)

So ... my next project is to lap the NB and put a MircoCooler on it.
(I'm not ready to try H2O yet, If I did have the equip,,, I'd put a H2o block only on the NB and r9700pro)

Soulkeeper, I tried to hit 220 last night and my system volume was corrupted, too. Oh well, it was fine at 215MHz. I'm gonna hang at 200MHz for a while though, I tried for so long to get there I might as well enjoy it for a while, eh?

yeah i got a custom H20 setup and two pelts but i just don't wanna blow any more fuses or rake up the electric bill running it. also it is loud
it allowed me to get 2.53ghz on my 2400+
i only set it up when i get pissed.......

I agree with your suspicion that it's probably your memory that's limiting your overclock.

One way to find out is setting 5X multiplier, so neither CPU nor NB/board are stressed, and upping FSB incrementally. Use Memtest86 to check for error-free memory operation at each FSB increment. When you can no longer run error-free in Memtest Test#5, regardless of timings or Vdimm settings, that's your memory limit.

Save testing time by using Memtest86 Test#5 (block moves) only, since it's usually the most critical test. Use two passes to be sure.

Hope this helps!
