Hi all, I just got back from the AMD EPP2 in Boston and was one of the lucky winners of the 2200+!!! But I should start planning out what mobo and ram to get so I can upgrade my comp over the Christmas break.

I personally have VERY bad experiences with VIA so I think I might go for an Abit or Asus nForce2 board instead.

But what ram should I get? I'm thinking about 2 sticks of 256mb pc3200/3500 to take benefit of the dual channel ddr. Should I get the Corsair XMS? OCZ? GeIL, Mushkin? or the new Kingston HyperX?

Also, what overclocking result should I expect from air cooling a 2200+ (1.8ghz)? and will the multiplier be unlocked automatically with the nForce2 board? any extra tips for me? What's a good and reasonably priced heatsink+fan?

Congratulations! :D

Here's a modestly-priced + good heatsink/fan unit: Taisol to consider. The Thermalright SK-7 looks like a winner too, paired up with an 80mm fan of your choice, but is double the price.

I would get at least PC3200 CL2 for an nForce2 board so you're ready when the 400MHz-bus Athlons make their appearance, if you want to upgrade later. Corsair seems to be a proven brand.

Wow!! You won a chip...I was going to go but i know i wasn't going to win and i didn't want to deal with a long ride from Ipswich to boston and dealing with the T (what school do you go to in boston?)

I would get the Asus nForce2 mobo get some Corsair XMS DDR400 :D

No, the multiplier will be locked
look on overclockers.com to see what you can get

I would try stock and see what your temps are like, then think about buy one
I payed about $45 for just a Heatsink Link but thats just me
but you can get a good one for less....like $20-$30

Well, if you want to get something right away, check out MicroCenter in Cambridge (Memorial Dr. next to Strawberries). They carry a few decent heatsinks over there. I think I saw a Volcano 7+ on the shelf yesterday. I think it was going for about $40-45 or so. The nearby CompUSA in Brighton has a lot of heatsinks and overclocking stuff as well, but it's not as good as the one in Woburn (exit 36 off Rt128). They carry the massive Thermaltake AX7 over there.

**I should also mention that if you do make a trip into the Woburn CompUSA, check out the little PC store (ALFA Computers) next door as well. They have a limited selection of heatsinks, but what they do have seem to be of quality.

to quote everything somebody says hit "quote" bottom right and it will open a reply windows with the quote setup for you
to quote just something that someone says hit "quote" in the reply windown and copy and paste in the text box and its set it up for you
or you can use Q put text here /Q with [ ] around the "Q"s

I hope that helps
