Im thinking get new case psu gfx but that is alot of hassle. Any chance a decent card willwork? something half height? i think its the sx8200 series.

1tb e5500 6gb I dont think those parts are any diff than others.. Its for my friend i have 10 gfx cards spare but none of them are low watt except one and it has massive cooler on it def wont fit and its not half height.

What's the intended use for the card? If you just need it for watching videos and normal desktop work, I'd grab a low profile HD 5450 or 5550, or something along those lines. If you want to play games with that computer, it's going to be tough. Something like an HD 5670 or GT 240 is going to be pushing it with that PSU.

why wouldnt i use the onboard gfx if just watching video? hahahha thnx but you basicly told me nothing! i see 4550 that others have used. Its not mine or i would never have got it.. but i tell him 4550 or get new psu / case .. 5670 would work?

Try the HD 5570.

It's probably the best option for this machine without switching power supplies. And since this machine has an E5500, I don't think you'll run into any power issues. The e5500 is pretty efficient and low power.

For gaming it won't be that bad, either. It should handle any console port fine enough. Its performance will be like a Radeon HD 4670 and HD 3870/3850.

Try to get the DDR3 version; avoid the DDR2 version.

If possible make the HD 4550 your last resort. Other good options if you can't find an HD 5570 are: Radeon HD 4650, Radeon HD 4670, Geforce GT 220.

All of these should be fine with the existing power supply.

Even an HD 5670 shouldn't be too much as you should expect it to use less than 35 watts, xbitlabs test show a max power draw of 33.5 watts in OCCT:GPU test and only 28.7 while running crysis. If you can find a low profile 5670 you should get that one it'll do ok for most gaming.

ok thanks i will have him order a half height 5670 looks ok prob bit expensive for performance 70? but will fit all requirments. thnx thnx thnx

The power supply is one the most important components in a computer. Get a 700w OCZ GameXstream which has 72amps on 4 rails and run a 5870 on it if you want to play new games at all.

ya that was a chucle at least.. i didnt know gamexstream ocz psu's wehre even worth a shit.. (not that gateway stock 220w is good.. )

I run a 5750 myself in a slim case but my PSU is a 350W Seasonic. You could probably get away with a 5570 since half height 5670's aren't very common.

There's a GDDR5 version of the 5570 that's faster than the DDR3 version.

Well onboard gfx wouldn't exactly be good if you're trying to do 1080p playback and use it as a HTPC...

Obviously different requirements will need different cards and if you don't lay out the requirements it'd be hard to make suggestions, especially when you get down to price.

But there is a low profile 9800gt from sparkle but I'm going to assume that won't fit and with only 220W that's going to be pretty tough to manage. Though it'd probably help if you knew the amperage on the 12V line of the CPU since that's quite a bit more important than how many watts it is.

But yea, if your friend actually wants to game on his PC with acceptable framerates at a decent resolution then he's going to have to spend quite a bit in proportion to how much his computer is worth.
