I have been researching monitors for months now - And I'd really like to get one these three.

BUT THEY ALL HAVE MIXED REVIEWS!!!

Cons:
Ultra-sharp 2208WPF - Now uses crap 6 bit TN panel :brokenheart:

SP2208WPF - Same TN panel - Text clarity issues

226BW - Play the panel lottery! (S,P,M?)

Pros

Ultra-sharp 2208WPF - This is what I originally wanted - Awesome stand - 3 year warranty

SP2208WPF - 3 year warranty - 2ms response 2000:1 contrast - 3 year warranty - $50 cheaper - HDMI

226BW - overall good monitor - highly regarded online

Which one would you get????

From reading reviews it appears that some of the panels for the 226BW are not perfectly calibratable (word?) - while others are fine right out of the box. I have no problem spending some time setting up the monitor, but the negative reviews of some of the panels really scare me.

Do you know if Newegg will allow me to exchange it if I get one of the bad panels?

Ultra-sharp 2208WPF - I own one, great monitor. No problems to report at all.

Thats good to hear - there are ALOT of negative reviews on the web about this model (uneven color, horrible viewing angles)

I really want it, but I don't wanna get stuck with a lemon...

no idea I never ordered from Newegg, but the policy with Samsung is 7 pixels before they consider it a problem.

I don't have any text issues with the SP2208WPF after calibration.

If you have an XBOX360/PS3, get the SP2208.... As for viewing angle, I have a nasty habit of actually sitting in front of my monitor, not standing on my head half a room away, thus I have no issues with viewing angle.

You said you were a gamer, TN = Gaming

My only con is slight bleeding from top and bottom, but it isn't that noticeable to me.

Before I tried the ones in the list below I went through 3 Dell TN's. They are OK monitors at best (google reviews). I calibrated each with the spyder2.

HP W2007
226BW
Soyo 24
FHD2400
L226WT
VX2255wmb

Just as an FYI i'm very sensitive to refresh rates in crt's and input lag/response in LCDs. I pretty much game (EX: TF2, Crysis and various MMOs). Some of the LCD's are so bright that even turning down the bright/contrast they would start giving me eye strain after a few hours. Overall I have to say that my favorite so far (I have a few more to test) is the Viewsonic VX2255wmb followed by the L226WT/W2007/226BW. I was lucky to have been able to eventually get the good sammy screens after a few tries. So far the Viewsonic is a keeper, about avg backlight leaking for a TN but better then avg viewing angles and very nice colors very good in games.

Yeah the viewing angle isn't a huge deal to me, but I want my monitor be a close to "perfect" as possible (I'm coming from an expensive CRT that was perfect in every way - besides size)

Yeah, the HDMI is a bonus for me - I have a 360 elite (HDMI) - DELL has this monitor for $240 right now free shipping - I might get it!

Before getting this, I was hardcore CRT too.... I'm still sad that CRT isn't a good option anymore

Have you looked into the HP W2207 ? I think either BB or CC has it on display at their stores.

Ok, I dont know how much this will help, but go to a few stores and write down the make/model of your favorite 1 or 2 screens from each place. Go online and find out all the technical specs of them. Emperical data is priceless.
