Hi, I'm looking at two 22" HDTV models, I want ti use it as TV set and use it as computer monitor (which should support 1680x1050 resolution)

But I'm confused by the tech spec.

Zenith 22" model 22LCD3

http://zenith.com/products/lcd-tv/22LCD3/ resolution 1366 x768

But here says native resolution 1680x1050

Vizio 22" model VO22L

http://www.vizio.com/productDe....aspx?id=1788&pid=1508

Supported TV Formats
1080i, 720p, 720i, 480p, 480i

Native Panel Resolution: 1680 x 1050

Supported PC Resolutions
1366 x 768, 1024 x 768, 800 x 600 <-- does this mean if I use it as computer monitor, it's maximum resolution is 1366x768? And why the native panel resolution is 1680x1050?

================================
I'm really confused.

So exactly what is the maximum resolution if I use these HDTV as PC monitor?

Can anyone help? Thanks!

With my 42" Panasonic Viera Plasma HDTV, the "max PC resolution" is indicative of the maximum resolution over VGA only.

Over DVI (Graphics card) to HDMI (TV), I have access up to 1080i which is the maximum my set can display.

This is advice for my set up only. It may or may not be the case with those sets.

The max res you can use is actually determined by the EDID (extended display information driver) stored in the HDTV. I'm running on a 720p 23" Sony right now, with a native res of 1360x768. According to the EDID, the monitor supports up to 1680x1050, but I think that's scaled down to the 1360x768 res (I've never tried it).

Native Panel Resolution: 1680 x 1050

Supported PC Resolutions
1366 x 768, 1024 x 768, 800 x 600

I think that means that the native res is 1680, but it supports the other res listed there.

Will you be using the display in Vista or XP? Vista, for whatever reason, will override any user settings with the EDID data if they differ. Sony was kind enough for put the wrong EDID in the monitor, so I can't run Vista.

I'm still running XP, but of course I'll be running Vista or Windows 7 later.

Today I visited CircuitCity for Zenith and Costco for Vizio, the former does not carry it and the latter ran out of stocks.

I did checked the PDF manual for Vizio and it seems that it did support 1680x1050 via VGA. What I'm wondering is why these vendors don't clearly say it in the spec sheet? Maybe they want to confuse you enough so you will buy another LCD monitor from them specific for PC?
