Definitely the 60's... that's the peak of the casual sex craze!

EDIT: Woah... I've neffed up a storm recently.

Add "widespread use of the internet begins" for the 90s. Pretty important.

The 70's... it really was the end of an era, everything changed after that.

edit: and the 70s were a HELL of a lot more than disco, damnit!

Using flower children to describe the 60's is pretty lame. The 60's was a lot more than just flower children.

I agree with you, but I'm sorry that my list isn't a comprehensive book on the century.
Now, if you would like to add to my incomplete list, please indulge.
Now, those people listing decades without explaining why please do. I'd like to see what you have to say.

The 90's had a lot more than just the fall of the wall... we had the technology boom, the rise of the internet, the longest period of economic growth in the history of the US...

The 50's! That's when we all thought we were going to die in a nuclear fireball. That fear gave rise to 3 classes of people in this country and made them very distinct and easy to recognise. There were those who made an effort to ignore it but compensated by trying to either project that things were sooo good or to act so cool that they couldn't be bothered by it. Then there were the emotional over-the-top people who built bomb shelters in there backyards and supported the likes of McCarthy. Lastly, it created a class of thinkers that went far beyond in numbers the class of philosophers who inhabit every generation. These thinkers reconsidered much of the prevelant thinking on matters such as war, race, and the environment. Pepole who didn't assume that the establishment was automatically right about everything. Now we are not so afraid, and I don't believe some of us think so much anymore.

Thanks to three decades of the USA choosing capitalism over democracy! Iran, Guatemala, Vietnam.... sealed indeed.
