Would it be worth to buy a 2500+ mobile instead of my 2100+ Athlon?
would the larger cache and higher FSB be worth it?

My current run stable at 160x13 = 2080

If you've got a board and RAM that can do 200 FSB, then I'd say it would be worth it.

With the XP-M 2500, you'd most likely be able to get at least 2.3-2.4ghz running at or near a 200 FSB. The extra 300-400mzh in clock speed and the higher FSB will increase the bandwidth and provide a noticeable increase.

The extra 256k of L2 cache of the Barton core won't hurt either. :)

I've got a XP2500 @ XP3200, and I still want to get a 2500+ mobile :p Of course in your case it's more worth it, since as Blue noted, you've got some good PC3200. (thou not sure how good of an overclocking mobo is the MSI K7N2)

Not worth it. 2.08ghz to 2.2ghz+ will bring little to no returns in day to day use. Ofcourse if you goto bed with 3DMark 2001SE.....

I just received my 2600+ mobile today and cant hit 200FSB without my games crashing at any voltage. I have excellent PC3200 and an SP97 cooling the chip and am quite dissapointed in this. I have only gone up to 1.725 on the Vcore with just upping to 200fsb but it still isnt stable. What is the max MHz I can hit with multi at 12.5 and FSB below 200?

What's the stepping on your 2600? Do you know for a fact that it's the chip is holding you back, and not your RAM or motherboard?

Im pretty sure its not my MB or RAM. Its an A7N8X Deluxe that supports DDR400 memory. I just got it back from RMA and is the exact same revision I had before which is a 1.04 and the first one was able to hit 200FSB. Right now I am at 193 FSB at 12.5 multiplier which is 2.4GHz but I'll just try the burn-in technique and see what happens.

That's an awfully low voltage for 2.5ghz. Mine requires 1.80v (in bios, 1.760-1.774v actual) to run at 12x209. BTW, if your problem isn't your motherboard, you will get much more performance with either a 12x multi or an 11.5x multi, and higher fsb's.

edit: Were any of you aware that it requires a psu with ~38A on the 5v rail, to be able to hit 2.5 ghz stable?

Right now Im at 185 x 12.5 at 1.7 Vcore and Farcry keeps crashing to the desktop. I would think 2.3GHz would need more voltage so I will try that but I thought 2.3GHz on these chips would require less rather than the same voltage as my old Barton at 2.3GHz.

How much 5v amperage is your 300 watt generic psu putting out? If it isn't somewhere in the neighborhood of 36-38A, overclocking farther than your "old" desktop XP2500 isn't going to be possible, especially with a high-end video card.

Ive got a 470w Enermax Noisetaker that I paid like $90 bux for so I seriously doubt that is a problem. I just think its my MB since I just got it RMA'ed but thats OK I upped my voltage to 1.75 and everything seems alright for now. I'll try some more stuff later but I just want to play for a while.

OK Im now running at 2.4 GHz at 1.8Vcore and it seems perfectly stable but I am very concerned on how long this chip will last me. Will it last at least a whole year or more? If not then Im gonna have to drop down on the speeds because I dont want to have to deal with these problems anymore. Ive got at least 1 month without my PC.
