System Config:
Athlon XP 2100+
Shuttle AK31 V3.1 (Via DT266A DDR)
1GB RAM
Spire WhispherRock IV Heatsink/Fan
350W Power Supply

BIOS Config:
CPU Voltage Default 1.600V
CPU VCore Select [default]
CPU Ratio Select [default]
DDR Voltage Control [default]
Auto Detect DIMM/PCI CLK [enabled]
Spread Spectrum [Disabled]
CPU Clock [100] ~(Can be set up to 166)

I just replaced the Athlon XP 1800+ with stock heatsink/fan with the 2100+ (I flashed the BIOS with the latest BIOS version before upgrading the processor). The BIOS is showing that the processor as "unknown CPU type 2000MHz". Under the System in the Control Panel it is showing up as "unknown CPU type 2.00 GHz. Under the old CPU the BIOS identified the CPU as 1800+ and it showed up as a 1.54GHz CPU under the System in the Control Panel.

Now my question is how can I make the BIOS identify the CPU correctly (as a 2100+ processor)?
Is my system overclocked? I looked up the 2100+ processor and it should run at 1.73 GHz not 2.00GHz.
I would not mind if it is overclocked, but I would like the correct BIOS settings in case it is unstable and starts crashing.

As you can probably tell, I'm pretty new at this and I don't know a lot about BIOS settings, etc., so I would appreciate a lot of details in your answers. Thanks.

Lee

UPDATE:

OK I made a stupid mistake. When I flashed the BIOS, I saved the old bios using the name of the new BIOS, so essentially the BIOS was not updated. I reflashed the BIOS and now the CPU is showing up as a XP 2400+ in the BIOS and as XP 2400+ 2.00 GHz in the System under Control Panel.

Should I be thanking the AMD Gods that I'm getting a 2400+ when I bought a 2100+ CPU? I do not know how is this possible. The markings on the CPU showed it as a 2100 processor. I also do not know how the motherboard can support this. On Shuttle's website, they state that the motherboard can only support processors up to 2100+.

Is my system going to be stable? That is my main concern.

your board probably doesn't support the thoroughbred core. your old core was definitely a palomino.. and your new care is most likely thoroughbred.

I checked around the web. From what I can find, the 2100+ is the last CPU with the Palomino core.

Like they said, your mobo is probably misdetecting your CPU. Try setting it to 133 (host clock MHz) x6.5. Right now, if you did actually get a 2100+ (and you probably did), it's basically overclocked.

the 2100 was also the start of the thoroughbred core.. however, his bios isn't recognizing the cpu correctly.. with that it's suffice to say that he doesn't have a palomino core.
