21" Trinitron... good deal?

Is this a good buy for the money? I have basically crap selection for monitors where I live, so I have to either spend twice as much as I should have to for a crappy monitor from a brand like Envision or KDS, or order one online... and since I can't see the display quality, I have to go off of reviews.

Is this worth $200?

I'm currently using an NEC MultiSync FE700 (17") that I bought like 6 years ago.

Considering the price and warranty it's a good deal for a Monitor that once retailed for over $1K...

I've bought quite a few refurb monitors from azatek before. they all work great. very reputable from my own experience.

Plus you can't beat "free delivery." It's costly to get a big piece of CRT to be shipped.

That monitor has DVI too. Would using it make as big of a differnce as it does with an lcd, and would it help getting perfect geometry and stuff like that?

Special Notes: Off Lease Inventory. Used. VGA and Power cables included.

Used stuff then. Hopefully it's still in good condition though. I have a Nokia monitor with a Sony Trinitron tube in it, and I love the quality; bought it used off the forums awhile back.

As for the digital input, I've got no idea if that helps geometry. However, if it's got as many menus as my Nokia does, you can make all kinds of adjustments that way. And if you can find your way into the servicing menu (usually needs a password though, and a certain key combination to access), you can really tweak the hell out of the thing. You can also accidentally set the monitor to pure black, and be almost entirely unable to find your way back in. Don't ask how I found that out. 😉

And damn you for posting that link. I don't really NEED another 21" monitor....but $200 for a 21" Trinitron is a good deal. Probably shouldn't get me another power hog though anyway.

DVI should not matter to a CRT
CRT is analog, so it just depends if the D/A converter is better than the one on your vid card.

LCD is digital so your card converts digital to analog, then youy moniter converts it back to digital. that is why digital input is much better on an lcd.

of course I could be wrong, and it is highly likely.

That's a drool-worthy CRT deal if I ever saw one. So do you want to post that in HotDeals, OP, or should I? Someone? Bueller?

Wish I had a spare $200 right now, and room to put one of those monsters. :|

Well, I just received this monitor, and I must say I am VERY happy with it. Going from a 17" to this is amazing. It was a hell of a time getting it home from work, though.. the box could not fit into my car door, nor into my trunk... had to take it out of the box.

One question though -- It did not come with a DVI cable, is this going to make any difference? I'll be building my new system tomorrow, and all I have is the included VGA cable. Is it worth buying a DVI cable for a CRT or does it not make a difference?

You don't need the DVI cable. It will just convert to analog anyway, so just use the 15pin d-sub connection.

Make room, man, make room! 🙂

I took off some panels from the back of my corner-designed desk to put two 17" monitors on the left/right of my main 17"... I'd like to be able to add another 21" sometime and use the two of these instead, but there's no way it'll fit on my desk.

And man, do these 17"s look dinky now...

I like having the side monitors because I can put Trillian on one, and have open chat windows with the 6 people I talk to regularly open already, tiled and ready to go... plus Winamp can be open and have the full playlist showing. But it looks pretty ridiculous with this beast in the center :/

Well, I've got a 19" CRT and a 17"LCD now. The problem is vertical space. I've got a bookshelf above where the monitors are.

Trust me, I'm thinking of ways to rearrange, especially after seeing this thread. 😉

If anyone else is looking at buying one of these, go for it. You won't be disappointed. I'm peeing myself right now.

This is a good example of how the internet can cost you money.

I've used a CPD-420GS (19") for years and never thought I'd want anything else. You've got me thinking now.

Would you say that that monitor is in absolutely perfect cosmetic condition?

That looks like a crazy good deal.
