21'' Sony Trinitron Dying!?

On darker backgrounds my beloved Trinitron monitor is throwing green lines diagonally with about an inch and a half between each one. I can't see much other than the lines in darker backgrounds like when watching movies or playing games.

What's the problem and how can I fix it?

If I can't fix it, how much will it probably cost to have it fixed?i

You can't really fix a CRT... well at least not cost effectively. You should just buy another from a refurbishment place online, or welcome yourself into this millenium with a nice LCD on your desk.

But then again if I have an LCD it will have to be put on a constant resolution yes? If I go out of the set resolution it looks all crappy right? So if I actually vary resolutions from desktops to games and such what good is any LCD to me?

LCDs have really improved how they handle non-native lower resolutions. MANY of my clients run their LCDs at lower resolution than they are built for and you really can't tell the difference (other than larger characters).

Monitor repair FAQ

Note: Monitors have several sources of varying levels of high voltage within them. Opening the case of a monitor is generally not recommended.

Ugh, dammit, mine's acting stupid again.
At least I've had the thing open before.....but it's still a pain to try to safely manipulate what amounts to a 70lb 30KV capacitor that could implode quite forcibly if abused.

There is an option in the OSD - in the last section (Options) , I think it is Color Restore or some thing like that .
It workek for some people .
