What is the risk in buying a refurb CRT? I mean, is there a bigger chance of it blowing up or something? Warrenty?

Refurb's are a crapshoot just like a new unit except the warranty is limited and usually 90 days or less.. They can be DOA, die a day after the warranty , or last years.

The question is do you feel lucky punk? Well do you? :)

And take into account that you may have to pay for shippping costs for warranty service on an 70+ LB monitor.
Thanks bud I bought a CRT with a service plan to drop it off at the retail store.

Accurateit.com has nice refurbished monitors. My Viewsonic PF775 just arrived today, $85 shipped.

Decent deal but not hot...especially if you can't get it B&M. Also looks like the glass is rounded not flat glass I could be wrong tho. You can find better on FleaBay in your area probably.

Nice sig ActuaryTm !

...because this shadow mask Nokia monitor will blow the others clean away. Not made anymore, but these were made in Finland by Nokia with their high quality electronics and Hitachi CRT's. Slightly curved screen, and if these are the 445Xpro's, one of the best monitors ever made. A great buy at that price, and well worth it.

w00t, I got one for 160 w/ free shipping at that place VanillaH linked and very soon after they bumped it up to 200. Hehehe. Interesting 7 day period where they pay shipping to replace a bad unit for first time buyers as well (although I imagine convincing them it's bad would be the iffy part).

It looks like the major drawback is low res (1600x1200, but that's probably at 85Hz when lower refresh is fine anyway). I can't stand those grill monitors anyway, no freaking lines across my screen thank you. My 21" Viewsonic shadow mask I'm using right now is plenty bright and sharp, no need to screw up the screen with lines for unneeded improvements.

I had that screen also. Got it for $460 when a few different online stores were clearancing them in Sept. of 01. Just recently replaced it with a 2001FP. It was a great screen.

Just got mine (the 445Xi as advertised). No significant problems and definitely keeping it. I did notice two things that might be of note, but I'm not sure if they are defects particular to my unit or if they arise due to it's construction. First, from an inch or two away there is a detectable horizontal grain, but from a foot on back I can't see it even looking for it (although I can kiss my ViewSonic 21PS and not notice any problems ^^).

Second at low resolutions (640x480 and 800x600) there is a circular sort of moire that's visible in dark scenes (that the moire controls don't affect), but this completely disappears at 1024x768 and up. It's not very bad and is easily ignorable, but it does have me resizing any mpeg4 stuff I play on the fly rather than just setting the monitor down to their resolution like I usually do.

The color response is very nice, I admit I have to adjust the gamma for individual colors on my 21PS (which is from ~1995 so I forgive it), but none of that needed here. I looked up the stats ahead of time so knew it was shadow mask (which I prefer) and not perfectly flat, so no problems for me there.

I did notice an add for Nokia 445Pro Flat which is AG on sale at overstock.com for 279 w/ 3 dollar shipping. So AG fans might want to check on that, although I image there are a preponderance of other AG options since corporations are the ones dumping all the CRTs and AG fits them.
