Hello All,

My 6 year old 19" Flatscreen viewsonic CRT is getting darker and darker. It's lasted me through 3 systems but it is time for a change. Can anyone suggest to me a 21 or 23" LCD that is good for gaming. I have no real budget as this is a once every ~5 year upgrade so I am willing to splurge on it. Please note that Gaming is a must, i.e. First Person Shooters. I do not want ghosting or images being washed out, etc.

Any ideas? I know there is a HP, Sony, Apples, and the Dell (are they 21"+?).

I assume they all will connect via dvi as well. Currently I have a 3.2 ghz P4c and a 9700 pro but that will be upgraded probably to a dual core A64 next year and the highest end video card at the time.

Thanks all!

I would recomend the dell 24" widescreen lcd or either of the dell 20" lcds (widescreen and fullscreen). Dell lcd's are probably the best for gaming as they have very low response times compared to other large size screens, and are much cheaper when they go on sale.

I have a DELL 2001FPW. It is one of the earlier revisions with some backlight bleeding. This is not very noticeable except on dark scenes and I'm specifically looking for it. I've watched the Star Wars trilogy on DVD as well as the Lord of the Rings trilogy on it and haven't noticed the bleeding. It's there if you look for it but not really noticeable. The later revisions of this LCD has it fixed to a large degree. My bro has one of the later revisions.

I can whole heartedly recommend this monitor as it's a pretty kick ass one. It's 20.1" and not really a 21" and also keep in mind that it's a widescreen LCD. So height wise it isn't as large as other non widescreen LCD's. It's still plenty large though.

There's also the 24" sidescreen monstrosity from Dell, the 2405FPW.

The dells are supposed to be great, and recommending that sony is really hard when dell has a bigger one that is supposed to be great, for around half the price if you buy at the right time.

Also, a 20.1 inch LCD has a viewing size greater than or equal to a 21inch crt.

I saw dell's monstrosity but I had not seen it reviewed anywhere really that reputable. 20.1 and 21" should be fine. Have there been any concrete reviews of the new revisions of the 2100FP?

thanks all!
