Got to thinking about that thread on the solar powered vending machine we had a few weeks ago. People seemed pretty upset about paying the premium price of $1 for a can.

So I got to thinking, how much do you pay for a typical 20oz (591ml) bottle where you are. It's the standard size sold by machines and convenience stores.

Here in eastern Canada, it's $2.00 from a machine, but up to $2.25 at convenience stores.

About US $3.3 for a 50cl bottle (standard sizes here are 33 can or 50 cl plastic bottle) is the standard price in vending machines and convenience stores. A little cheaper in big supermarkets and such.

Cheapest is 2 for $2.22.

Most expensive is around $1.80 per.

But we don't buy them anyway, so neither of us care one whit about what they cost.

Most convenience stores around here at $1.09 for the major brands, Coke, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, etc.... and .99 for everything else.

At least they were the last time I checked....normally if I get something to drink at one of those places it is a fountain drink, not bottle or can.

I saw this thread and then ran down to the vending machine at work.

20 oz bottles = $1.25

12 oz cans = $0.65

I still remember when a 12 oz can was $0.5 and a decent sized bag of chip (not tiny bit as right now) was $0.5. Breakfast for a total price of $1. Good o'le days.

20 oz bottles at JFK airport stores = $1.45, not bad for an expensive place.

$1.35 here at work, they just went up ten cents about 3 months ago. Typically around $1.49 at most local gas stations that I've seen, but I don't buy them that often.

I work right next to a Walmart, so most guys here just walk over to Walmart and buy a 2-liter for $1.25 (or $0.89 if they want the Walmart brand), stick it in the fridge, and use a cup to drink on it for a week. $1.25 once a week is much better than $1.35 every day.

Up until about 4 years ago the soda machines outside WalMart sold the Sams Club soda in a can for 25 cents and the name brand for 50 cents.

I just noticed they now only sell the name brand and its in the bottle for 1.25.

I'm guessing it cost the manufacturer about 10 cents a bottle tops for all the ingredients, shipping, etc.

$1.35 here at the vending machine, but my company probably subsidizes it. Not really sure otherwise, usually like $1.75 or so at the Duane Reade nearby.

fiesta grocery stores here carry their house brand for $0.25 a can in the machines still. HEB stores carry house brand bottles in the machine for $0.50.
