All,

I'm looking for a 17" to 18" LCD with a response time of 25ms or under, preferably 20ms or better. I've seen lots of reviews on the Hitachi CML174, and also heard of the Planar. What else is out there that has responses of 20ms or less, or is there a nice place to find this information? Found quite a few with 25ms. Most of the product pages I visited didn't seem to carry this info though.

Currently looking at the Hitachi CML174 (16ms) and the Dell 1800FP (25ms), unless something else turns up.

Thanks,
Craig

Ones I've found so far:

Hitachi CML164 16ms rt $630 at Monitor's Direct (MD)
Planar PX171M 16ms rt $589 at MD (doesn't ship till 1/15)
Iiyama AS4314UT 20ms rt ?

25ms
Dell 1800FP $584 at Dell
Samsung SyncMaster 171MP $799 at MD

Anyone know of any others with a 20ms or better rt? Or of another quality 25ms one to consider?

Thanks,
Craig

Go for the Hitachi/Planar/Benq 16ms, they seem to be using same panel, same spec.

The iiyama's viewing angle is 150/125 - much lower than above 3's 160/160.

I saw a review of the Hitachi 16ms LCD awhile back. Mmmmm....If I had $500-1000(I forgot the cost of it) right now Id pick that LCD up instantly.

Thanks all,

Just made the order for the Hitachi. Seen lots of good reviews, and nothing else really peaked my interest. If I could, I'd wait a few months and see what else comes out, but I need a new monitor now.

Thanks,
Criag

Ordered from Monitors Direct earlier today. The 174B (black one) was out of stock then, but they accepted my order for the white one. Still shows it in stock too.

For dirt cheap, you could get the Cornea 17" MP704. It's not the most aerodynamic, but it does the job and sports a 25ms refresh.

That would set you back only $400-450.

Here's a link... Link to Computers4Sure. $409 after coupon/rebate.

I've got one. Like I said, it's not the most stunning (physically) looking model, but it does the job well...

(never mind... You already ordered...)

It's good to finally start seeing LCDs with really good response times such as 16ms. I would like to see some LCD gaming with that response time; I bet it is leaps and bounds over what I have seen.

i would stay as far away from the hitachis as i can...
My neighbor has an 18.1" hitachi LCD that he got from newegg for $900, also with the 16ms ratings...
First I did the 3dmark demo on it, which the LCD was using DVI(even said digital on the bottom right corner of the screen when it switched modes)
In the car demo, you can see the tailight of the car trail all over the screen, freaky!
next i played quake3 arena, which when i moved a little, the textures completely disappeared!!! The trailing was extremely bad... definately stay away!!

There is no such model. The 18.1" available at Newegg has 30ms response time. See for yourself
here. You have to add 15ms+15ms and then you get the total response time.

The Hitachi CML174 that has 16ms response time and is rated 14ms+2ms. The times are the time it takes to turn the pixel on and the time it takes to turn off the pixel.

BTW. I have Hitachi CML174 and there is no ghosting and it really is great monitor :D
