Even though the 0% financing deals do close the gap somewhat, used cars are still the better choice financially. As others have said, you should be able to get a much better APR than 7.5 unless you have poor credit.

Hmm, now i'm getting excited about that maybe I should just blow all my cash...how much would a good used 1998-2000 used BMW 5 series run me? IF it is low 20s that is awfully tempting as well, but I guess not to practical for me.

A 5-Series would be pushing it. You'd be looking at a '98 or MAYBE '99 528 if you wanted to stay in the low 20's.

but the insuranceon that would be killer..
Lexus insurance isn't that high ... and especially if you ahve a clean record that helps as well..

That's my vote as well :)

(Or a Regal GS if you want a bit more luxury and more subdued look)

Some great deals on new cars going on right now...especially if you (or someone you know) works for Chrysler or a supplier (like me).

Invoice - 1% - $1,000 - Any other incentives...

For me (today): 2003 Durango SXT: Sticker $32,165...paid: $22,745....No questions (this price doesn't include trade-in's or cash down!)...talk about getting the price down below depreciation with no dickering involved! :D

Good Luck! :)

Or let someone else take the first depreciation hit and get a nice used car for $11k-14K. I'm looking for a decent 4 door car that is a comfortable ride, good interior room, decent gas mileage, looks decent too. Something like an Accord, Camry, Altima. I'd like to buy american car if possible but this is not crucial (and yes I realize the cars I listed are not american). Is the Impala any good? Anyway if you have ideas on whether to go new or used or even better if you have thoughts or experiences on this type of car I'd be extremely glad to hear it.

UPDATE 5/27 @ 6:00PM PST - I bought the 2000 Impala LS Sedan it handles great for a large family car and has 200 HP well getting decent gas mileage. I also think it looks a lot more sporty and more bad-ass than most honda accords and toyota camrys. I do have to bring it back this weekend to put the sliding Moonroof in the top. I didn't plan on buying so quickly but if you know what you want, no sense in waiting. Thanks for the tips everyone, we'll see how it turns out.

Good choice.

The 3.8L motor will last forever if you keep up with oil changes and all the other maintaince.

Was the $14000 a firm price or you get it lower??

I agree on the 3800 motor. That was a big selling point for me as my old car had that same motor, a 1992 and never a problem, and I always hear good reviews on that thing. And yes I was able to talk him down some and get a power sliding moon roof put in at their expense. Now I just have to hope all the millions of little extras/electronics in that thing hold up, all these features are nice to have but it is also more stuff to break. Oh well, gotta have fun with it.

Also to DMAN....thanks, I fixed the link, and thanks for the congrats too.

Well, the Impala was a good choice money-wise. I hope you are happy with your new car! :)
