A Central Islip man, with outstanding fines amounting to $11,442 and more than 204 license suspensions since 1988, was arrested Thursday in front of his home at 6 West Hally Lane.

Suffolk police charged Salvatore M. Geha, 44, with aggravated failure to answer appearance tickets or pay fines imposed.

Police said they identified Geha while he was drinking an alcoholic beverage in front of a convenience store in Islip Wednesday night and brought him into custody. After conducting an inquiry with the Department of Motor Vehicles that turned up no immediate response, police dismissed him with a warning.

Several hours later police received word from the DMV of the 44 year-old's 204 past suspensions and his thousands of dollars in outstanding fines which accumulated since August 12, 1988, police said.

Geha is scheduled to appear for arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip at a later date, police said.

This is the kind of security lapse that could let another terrorist slip away. All this information should be more readily available to an officer. Clearly, there is room for improvement in "homeland security." 😕
