I agree Peterson's done a fine job and moreover the Eagles in general are not afraid to spend the $$ when it counts, up front in the trenches. At NE they had a premier edge pass rusher/DE in Chandler Jones, he last year on the rookie contract he garnered 12.5 sacks but what did Bill B/Kraft do?, trade him because they knew good pass rushers command decent contracts these days. Seems most players that will hit FA usually wind up gone, next year Dion Lewis is set to enter FA, he's having a great season so he's as good as gone, ditto Malcom Butler. Many teams use rookie contracts to get players on the cheap, the Patriots also use a lot of undrafted players as well but sometimes those "guys in the trenches" determine the outcome of a game more so than skill players do.
