I stated a scientific fact. You said, unequivocally, that I was wrong. I posted two articles showing that I was actually correct, in addition to pointing out that you were ignorant (which, by definition, you were). You misinterpret the facts, presumably again because you don't understand what the articles say, don't understand much about biomechanics or physiology, or because you're too stubborn to admit you're wrong. Either way, the bottom line is that you were wrong, contradicted fact as though you knew something about the subject, and are more than happy to call anyone a jackass who corrects you. I think it's clear to everyone (except you, perhaps) who the jackass is at this point.

You may be factually correct but he's absolutely right that you're acting like a jackass. You can be right and still be a jackass you know. Also, your scientific facts did not address the specific scenario he presented, so you are not factually correct either. You can make an assumption that the findings hold in that scenario as well, but that's not factually proven -- at least not from the links you provided.

If they held football world cup in the US, teabaggers would show up wearing cheese-heads.

You're an idiot. The World Cup of 1994 is the most successful World Cup ever. FIFA studies show, the only way 1994 will be topped is by having it in the US again.

Another issue with Qatar is their cultural environment. It's not Saudi or Iran, but it's certainly not exactly friendly to women/gays/alcohol drinking fans. I don't know much about Qatar though, I'm sure we'll learn lots more about it in coming years.
Isn't Qatar one of the most western of Arab civilizations?
I don't remember if they're either more westernized than Turkey or they rank 2nd immediately after Turkey.

And yet they chose Qatar. I'm pretty pissed off and don't even like soccer that much. I do enjoy watching the World Cup though and was hoping to see it live while I'm still somewhat young.

So if you say something factually correct in an area in which you have considerable expertise, and someone else says that you are unequivocally incorrect, how would you respond? I don't even care if I was a jackass. I'm sick and tired of ignorant idiots using their ignorance as a weapon. Simply because you don't understand the pertinence of the articles I posted does not make them irrelevant, much less make my assertion factually incorrect. Even if I had posted links to something about aliens, I would still be factually correct in my original statement.

What is your area of expertise? I'd like to know so I can make some completely ignorant statements in your direction, then you can try to prove me wrong by posting articles I won't understand. I will then claim are not written about the exact specific case in question, further presupposing that the laws governing your area must break down under the conditions of that exact case, even if they hold for all others.

Are you an expert or just stating ignorant speculation as fact? My money is on the latter.

Acclimation is the process by which your body adjusts to environmental factors, such as temperature or altitude. And yes, your body can acclimate to high (and low) temperatures pretty quickly.

Example #1 - a paper stating that training in these conditions is safe even during the transient period.

Example #2 - a paper discussing just how long it takes to acclimate and lose that acclimation.

But don't let the facts get in the way of your opinions.

So you are saying that just arrive a month ahead , train in that climate and you should be able to run at full speed with no side affects a month latter? (oh and limited re-hydration for 45 minutes at a time?)

Sure! Don't you know, in just 10 days you'll be going at full speed for 45 minutes at a time in 130 degree temperature with no impact at all to your skills. That's what the jackass was saying. Of course, nevermind that a ton of people, trained medical staff, training specialists, FIFA themselves had the same concerns about the temperature and conditions. Hence all the stadiums and even training centers will be air conditions. They are all idiots compared to jackass..errr... Cyclo.

I thought so as well, but that's like saying someone is the fastest sprinter among a group of 400 pound people!

I performed a simple database search, gave some links to peer-reviewed articles detailing the transient period for temperature acclimation from the medical literature, thereby proving that such acclimation does occur, and I'm the ignorant jackass. Ignorance loves company, which is why you seek to refute medical fact with an appeal to popularity. Did you want me to write a review article to alleviate your ignorance? If I thought it would do the trick, I might, but I sincerely doubt it would make any difference. Besides, there are already literally hundreds of articles published in sports medicine journals that address all of your concerns. The real problem is that you're not interested in facts, you're interested in being a huge douchebag. You're doing it right.

Why don't you go tell the professional soccer players in Qatar that they shouldn't be able to do what they're doing by playing every day in that kind of heat? Go tell the Kenyans that they shouldn't be able to run in that kind of heat at altitude. Tell the Brazilians playing soccer in the English Premiere League in mid-winter that their bodies shouldn't be able to adapt to that kind of cold - it's just not possible!!!1!!!one! Or, you could just suck it up, admit that you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground, and admit you're wrong. But instead, you'll continue to spew your ignorant crap as feigned expertise, even when confronted with facts to the contrary, telling someone with expertise that he is a jackass for calling you out on your ignorance. Idiots like you are the downfall of society: you mock those of us who spend years learning how things work, simply because you can't wrap your pea-brain around reality when it's presented to you. You, sir, are the jackass. Go get a doctoral degree in biomechanics, engineering, sports medicine, or physiology and an appointment at one of the top med schools in the world, then get back to me. I might even be one of the professors unfortunate enough to have you in my class.

As I stated earlier, you can be right and still be a jackass, and you've done a fine job demonstrating that fact. Congrats. Oh, and I feel sorry for any student who has the misfortune of having to try and learn something from someone with such a condescending attitude. The jackass description fits perfectly, regardless of the merit of your argument.

I think they will be fine. I went from Germany to Iraq, and was surprised how quick I got used to carrying 120lbs worth of shit for hours with it being 115-125. My concerns would echo some of those about the infrastructure, and how it pans out culturally. I was there for a couple weeks on R&R ...I don't see it happening.

Thank you for your service. Personally, one of my life goals is to never find out how quickly I can get used to carrying 120 pounds of gear for hours at 115F - 125F. I am 100% sure I'd shoot the first bastard who said "But it's a dry heat" and end up in the next cell from Bradley Manning.

Just so that i am 100% sure, you are saying that they would be able to play at peak performance in 120 degree heat after 1 month of getting used to the climate, playing world class soccer.

So what is the correct approach when I study something for 10+ years and some idiot on an internet forum says that my assertions regarding my expertise are unequivocally, factually wrong? I've had my share of students that were ornery, but none of them pretended to know more about the subject I was teaching than I did. Well, that's what PokerGuy did - he pretended to know more about my area of expertise than I did, even though he actually has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. That makes him a jackass. I don't give a rat's ass if you think I'm a jackass for asserting my correctness or not because, in the end, I'm right and he's wrong. That used to count for something when having a debate, but apparently political correctness is now more important. I weep for the future of this country.

Are you saying they wouldn't?
There's no proof that they wouldn't be able to play peak performance in 120 degree heat if they're adequately hydrated.

All of you knuckle draggers should learn that the best way to win an argument is to be right in the first place. If you assert your correctness, then are later proven wrong, your only recourse is to whine about how the other guy shat on your poor little feelings. I'd much rather be right and a jackass than some ignorant prick trying to drag everyone else down to the lowest possible level. Piss off.
