Why do people feel they need to drive 300 MPH in a parking lot?

If it's a sanctioned event (as almost all are) it's by far the safest and ONLY place to do so and to actually push your car legally to its limit, outside of a major track, which not everyone has access to.

The driver would be well-advised to know that "drift king" style is not going to win a race. Grip will beat drift pretty much every time. I'm sure that the teen crowd was thoroughly impressed though.

Yea. When, if ever, would drifting be faster?

Based on his driving in that and other videos I'm pretty sure the driver isn't some random noob. That driving, while not the fastest way to get around an autocross course, is still impressive. I'm pretty sure this would qualify as a fun demonstration and not a race.

That course looks tough, very narrow and lots of 90 degree turns. I'm not sure how quick the steering ratio will be on that new mustang but it doesn't seem that much of a handful like prior generations. Too much throttle was the result of all that sliding lol
