If your Sync crashes and your AC/Heat is stuck in a setting, that's not a reliability issue? That is why I will never buy a car that doesn't have direct knob or knob backups for environmental controls. That said, the 'Infotainment' unit should be just that, keep anything of real content out of that IMHO.

While I agree with you, I think we're all pretty much screwed in terms of some car features being bundled into the infotainment. I have redundant buttons and stuff in my Dodge, but there are tweaks that I have to use Uconnect, such as configuring how long the lights say on after I close and lock up, whether DRLs are on or not, etc. I love having knobs for volume and a/c controls but yes, in the back of my mind i'm praying a my screen never dies and I don't have to replace it. On the bright side, Chrysler UConnect is very common, replacement units are all over the place and not expensive at all. Models and years are shared, too, so I rally just have to go junkyard shopping and look for a similar unit.

Yeah, you are right sadly.

Honestly, I think that is more due to manufacturers locking you into their infotainment options and preventing aftermarket options. I like how some companies configure part of the main display behind the wheel (1/3 of the space, not including tach and speedo) for car options. Often though, you give-up stock BT connections and some other stuff if you replace the infotainment with an aftermarket display.

Wonder if I can convince the dealer to buy me an ipod to make up for how poor the support is for everything else.
