Pulled the trigger on a gray 2015 Golf TSI. Base S trim in 4 door. Still very well equipped and that TSI is bringing back fond memories of my old MKIV Jetta with the 1.8T. I think this might be the perfect car for me. Engine has plenty of spunk and after cruising on the freeway at 80mph for 15 minutes you can tell this thing is built for the autobahn. Pulls effortlessly even at high speeds and has no wind noise. Super comfortable and has more technology than any other car I've ever been in. I'm 6'2" and I can sit behind myself in the drivers position very comfortably.

It's dark outside but will get pics tomorrow. I just thought I'd kick off some discussion since I haven't seen anyone mention this golf on the forum. MSRP was 21700 and I ended up paying less than that OTD which included all taxes/fees/etc. Very excited about getting to know this car better.

I'm looking at getting one myself. Did you get a manual or the DSG?

Need pics. Most people on this board seem to hate VW/Audi. I had a GTI for 6 years and loved it. VW pissed me off by not bringing the Golf R with DSG over so I bought an Evo X.

My buddy is 6'7" and has a 4 door 2007 rabbit. Fits fine, just no room for someone behind him. lol

I got the TSI, which only comes in 5 speed or traditional automatic. I got the automatic because I could not find a manual withing 300 miles. It's the TDI that comes with DSG or manual.

It feels so good to be back in a german car. It just feels...good. I understand the hate for VW, my old jetta definitely had reoccurring turbo issues but that was still my favorite car I've had. Before settling on the golf I've driven several Focuses which I liked but that engine felt so weak I couldn't get over it. I would have taken the mazda 3 more seriously but to get one that felt even comparable to the golf would cost a minimum of $4k more than what I paid for the golf. Not worth it. If I am going into the $25k territory I'm going to be looking at Focus ST or the GTI, not a mid trim Mazda 3. Also, I live at pretty high altitude so I tend to lean toward turbos which perform better while the N/A's get weaker.

Here are some pictures the dealer took. I think it looks much better in real life than in photos.

My wife is pretty much hellbent on the 2015 Golf TDI Sportwagen w/ a manual as the family truckster/grocery getter (we have 2 kids).

Unfortuantely, they aren't shipping until early next year. Is supposed to be bigger, and more efficient (50mpg hwy) than the Jetta SW it's replacing.

How's the interior build quality? Materials (especially the center console)? Any opinions on options packages? Doesn't look like you got the nav package... (she desnt have a smartphone and was thinking about it). What about seats? Which material did you get?

Interior build quality is by far the best from any car I've ever owned, and one of the best I've ever sat in. I can't believe this is the base model. Soft touch everywhere (elbows, dash, etc). Love the chunky leather steering wheel with the flat bottom. I didn't option up to the nav package. The seats are a V-tex pseudo leather and I love them. Well bolstered and comfortable. Center console is great, excellent touchscreen. Very responsive and easy to use.

I went out to lunch with a co worker today who had an MKV GTI, then a newer M3, now currently in a volvo cross country and he was loving it. He said if the Golf is this good then what's the new GTI like?

I realized on the drive home from work a few days ago that I have paddle shifters in the golf. Freakin' sweet. I haven't read one review that mentions this on the golf TSI. I guess it's got the tiptronic transmission then? This makes me glad I wasn't able to find a manual.

I thought VW only sold DSG or manual for Golfs. And not the "traditional automatic". But anyway, I'm assuming you have DSG so here's my question : Does your car seem to have a lot engine braking? My 2012 EA888 feels like it's dragging an anchor at times. Not that it's a bad thing (I actually really like it as I can almost get away driving without using the brake pedal at all).

VW does sell traditional automatic for low-end model.

If I remember right, per VW terminology, Tiptronic does not necessarily mean DSG. Triptronic is simply VW's term of Paddle Shifter, and is standard for all VW model, even Beetle.

For a comparison, go to VW website, and go to Golf and S trim section. Under Available transmission section, it will say 6-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic® and Sport mode. On the other hand, if you go to GTI section, it will say 6-speed DSG® automatic transmission with Tiptronic® and Sport mode under Available transmission.

I have a 2006 Jetta TDI with the DSG and yes it engine brakes a lot more than you'll be used to if you're coming from a slushbox automatic.

Why don't you find me one review that mentions the golf TSI that talks about paddle shifters. Not the DSG on the diesel. Thanks and godspeed.

What do reviews have to do with you not realising you had paddle shifters? You didn't notice on the test drive? I just find that odd... its not like we are talking about something subtle like auto windshield wipers.

The paddle shifters on my MKV were very tiny and hardly noticeable. VW giving it's tiptronic trans Golf paddle shifters must be a new thing as that was normally only on the DSG.

I did find a review mentioning them using Google search term of "volkswagen golf review paddle shifter."

Motor Trend review of 2015 Golf TSI review

But I agree, especially since Paddle shifters aka Tiptronic are now standard all across the VW line-up, probably reviewers find not much meaning to mention them specifically.

Exactly. Also I've driven a lot of the new ford focuses lately which have tiny little paddle shifter looking things that are actually used for bluetooth and other crap.

So the new TSI golf comes in either 6 speed triptonic or 5 speed manual. The TDI comes with 6 speed DSG or manual.

The tiptronic in regular drive mode does not engine brake at all as far as my experience. It feels like it will coast for miles. In sport mode I noticed it engine brakes a decent amount and I find that to my liking.

The 1.8TSI comes with 170hp and ~200tq (underrated based on dyno's I've seen). APR has a stage 1 ECU flash that is increasing it to 245hp and 290tq. Nuts

Not to split hairs, but Tiptronic just means manumatic, the ones where you could shift gears by moving the shifter to a different +- gate. The first ones in the B5 Passat didn't have paddle shifters.
