I have rented a 4-door (crew cab) 2015 F150 XLT 2WD with the 3.5L V6 and 6-speed automatic. I have seen on the highway as high as 32 MPG. Around town I am getting 22 MPG. This is with an empty truck. This is a truly amazing truck. Granted, this truck has 1,700 miles on the clock. I am astonished at the fuel economy. I may purchase one as my personal vehicle. Supposedly the 2.7L turbo V6 can achieve greater fuel economy, but personally I don't care for the added complexity of a turbocharged engine.

I have already done quite a bit of hauling with the truck. This truck has the 5 and 1/2 foot bed. I would prefer the larger 6 and 1/2 foot bed though.

Not even sure how that's possible based on fuelly.com and published info directly from Ford, but they are nice trucks.

It could easily show 32mpg on the display, but they tend to be optimistic.

I have the 2.7 ecoboost in a 2015 Lariat supercrew. I've never seen that high even with a 2WD and 3.31 rear end. Once you get into the boost, the MPGs drop. It is so fun in sport mode though.

I reset the MPG gauge when I left home this morning on the way to work. I was at 26.4 when I parked at work after a 10 mile commute. I've found the MPG gauge is about 1.5MPG high versus manual calculation.

On the same trip, I'd get 15-17 MPG in my 2004 Silverado 4x4 with the 5.3 V8 and 3.73 rear end. The 2.7 feels much stronger than the 5.3 V8. The torque seems instantaneous in the ecoboost versus having to get above 3K RPMS in the 5.3.

I'm pretty close to trading in my Camaro for a 2015 F150 Lariat with the 3.5 turbo. They are good looking trucks.

I just drove my 1995 F150 up from Florida to Vermont and averaged just under 18mpg over 5 tanks @ 65-70mph with around a ton in the bed, and a topper on that definitely doesn't help. It's a shame the economy hasn't really gotten any better. I know these trucks have gotten a lot bigger on the inside, and more powerful, so it's probably not comparable, but it makes one wonder.

I'm willing to bet that if they shaved some weight and height (it'd be nice if the bed were lower on these new trucks) they could probably get significantly better mileage and be a bit more useful at the same time. The aluminum body helps, but even so, they're in the range of 600-1000lbs heavier than they were 20 years ago.

realistically your looking at 23-24mpg @ 70mph with the new ecoboost trucks, you MIGHT get 20mpg around town if you stay out of the boost. My neighbor traded a super cab 12' 3.5EB for a supercab 15' 3.5EB and says he only picked up 1-1.5mpg over his old truck and his old truck got the same exact mileage as my 5.0L powered supercab truck. I see 20-22mpg @ 70 with my 5.0L 4x4 and 17-18 around town

My 14 3.5L Ecoboost gets ~16mpg. 9 while towing. I love this truck, it's got great power, but man it's a gas hog. Highest I've seen it get babying the pedal was around 17. I've seen some as high as 20+, but I've never accomplished it.

Edit: Supercrew cab, 4x4, 6.5' bed, so there's def. extra weight. And a 36 gal. tank.

I rented a '14 5.0 V8 (it was a "wild-card" rental, you got whatever they offered that hour). It was a really nice truck, list price was over $35K IIRC, but it didn't get anywhere near that mileage. I got ~18 on the highway and ~16 around town. And that was driving pretty conservatively.

I'm not surprised the '15's would do significantly better with the weight reduction but that sounds extremely good.

Yep - been driving my 14 and I average 16 mpg combined.

What gears did yours come with? Just curious.

Same combo that my Neighbor had in my comment above, Screw 4x4 6.5 box with 3.73 (The max tow package). He claimed to get 20mpg if he kept it at 70mph, and we both work at the same place and his back and forth to work is identical to mine. He love the truck except for the condensation in the intercooler issue which happened quite a few times to him, he hasn't had it happen on his 15' yet. Surprised to see the lower highway fuel numbers than what I get, I took a 1,400 road trip to Chicago and back with the cruise set at ~72mph the whole trip and averaged 20.9 mpg and the return trip I had a 500# outboard motor in the back. Mines a Scab 4x4 5.0L 3.55 gears. The hand calculated 20.9 also included a few hours of traffic, dash showed 21.1mpg round trip.

About the intercooler, do you know if he drilled a weep hole? I haven't had any issues with condensation but I'm considering drilling the hole. Much cheaper than a catch can lol

I've got a 2012 FX-2 SuperCrew 6.5 bed with the 5.0 and 3.31 gears.

When new I actually hit 21 MPH HWY on one trip... I think I had a tail wind. Today, my typical best HWY average both calculated by hand and the Dash is about 19-19.3... Really shocks me how accurate the dash computer is for MPG.

Towing a 7500#+ trailer I'm getting 10 MPG. Sometimes 9.5, sometimes 10.5.

What would I have done different? I would have gotten the Ecoboost as it is way better uphill towing than the 5.0. Perhaps I wouldn't have gotten the 3.31's. The 5.0 would probably be better with different gearing. Still a good truck and still a good tow mule for me.

No, I tried to talk him into it but he decided on getting the new 15 instead. In spring and fall we get quite a few high dewpoint nights and early mornings which really magnifies the issue i guess. Great engine otherwise, I got the 5.0L just because its was 1700$ cheaper at the time I bought mine.

yep, the 3.5L tows differently, not much better though. It Grunts its way up the hill with boost and the 5.0L "sings" its way up a hill with high RPMS. I haven't come across a hill yet where I've had any trouble pulling my 7500# skidsteer trailer up it an maintain speed. My neighbors 3.5L on same hills with a similar load is 1 gear higher most of the time, very diesel like. Pretty much all the 1/2 ton trucks on the market have more engine then they actually need now for the tow ratings they have, not enough weight/brakes for controlling 8000#+ trailers.
