2014 Steam Holiday Sale

Shovel Knight is awesome if you like old school games.

I bought more this sale than any sales in the last year, but mostly from GMG, did grab Shovel Knight, Transistor and Divinity:OS as well.

Almost bought transistor, but I didn't care for Bastion that much so I passed. I like the art style, but wasn't big on the gameplay. Ended up not buying anything for myself this time, which is the first time I've never bought anything from a steam holiday sale since they started doing them. Deals just didn't seem as good. Not much went into the lucrative 75%+ off category. Too many $59.99 games were only 50% off. Not cheap enough for an impulse buy. Oh well!

EDIT: Decided to pick up The Fall due to Giantbomb's story of the year recommendation on it. Curious to see what its about.

Last minute purchases:

Microsoft Flight Simulator X
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (been on my wishlist for ages)

Was gonna buy Borderlands the Pre-Sequel but after BL1 & 2's DLC fests I will wait for the complete edition in ~2016. I also won't pay more than £9.99 for any CoD title so none of those made it into my cart again.

Actually, did better than I though. The first 2 where the main purchases, the reset semi-impulse buys

Borderlans 1 & 2 GOTY
Prison Architect (plus dev pack with uplink.. impusle buy)
Pixel Piracy
SuperMeat Boy
Brothers
Transistor
Saints Row 4 Game of the Century

But I think the sales seem not as good anymore is because we/I seem to have purchased all the good stuff that would make the sale awesome

I was still thinking about Space Engineers, but didn't get it, same for Shovel Knight that people love but it's not my kind of game it looked like.

I picked up a few games on greenmangaming who had them for the Steam price less 20 percent, like Mousecraft.

I was also gifted NBA2k15, Castle Crashers and Rambo.

I be jelly. That's about the only title I was really interested in, but as I expected the sale didn't put it into even a remotely purchasable price range.

The only other game that I was tempted to buy was Street Fight IV Ultimate or whatever it's called, but I'm in no hurry to get that. I still have to get controllers and a decent video card for my HTPC that I just put together.

I was gifted Quest of Dungeons though, which was kinda cool. Looking forward to playing it.

Why? Because I didn't find anything worth buying (again)? I've got like 200 games that I still have to play in my backlog ffs, nothing I found at the impulse buy price level and honestly absolutely no games have come out recently that I've been waiting for or have any interest in that I don't already have or have a stake in (SoTA and SC).

Yah obviously but Gabe is trusted far more he is actually deserves. He and Valve can do some shady stuff like most companies.

Personally I'm more concerned about what happens if Gabe is no longer able to work, who inherits the throne? What happens if its an investor group that want to maximize revenue?

I got some holiday stuff. Not much. To be honest I'm glad the big sales are over and I cant be tempted to spend more money.

I need to start PLAYING these damn games. Even if I cheat and race through most of them I'll still be constantly busy for the next three years.

Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry
Transistor
Ultimate General: Gettysburg
Rock of Ages
FLOCK!
Pinball FX2
Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition (ooops, I already had Chaos Edition)
Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride
Hero Siege
Crypt of the NecroDancer
Dominions 4
Democracy 3, Democracy 3: Social Engineering
Ziggurat
Shadow Warrior Classic Redux
Panzer Corps
RUSE and it's DLC
Talisman Digital Edition
Defense Grid 2
Metal Gear Rising

right before the sale: a bunch of Crusaders II DLC
right after the sale: Giana Sisters" Rise of the Owlverlord (it was cheaper after the sale than during)

$101.73 in total.

bought a bunch of games for gifting, as well.

Some people are addicted to smoking, some to alcohol or drugs. I'm addicted to buying games 🙁

New Splinter Cell - first training level didn't really impress me. On hold.
Banished - so far it's interesting
Saints Row 4 - it was $5, probably will be worth it
Total War Rome 2 - it's TW and was cheap, only played a few battles so far
Uplink - from a recommendation here, haven't got to it yet
Wasteland 2 - great reviews and a kind of game I like
Earth 2150 complete - great old RTS; 3 games for $1.74

About $63 total; what I used to get one crappy AAA title for. Almost bought Transistor and a few other games, but when some games give me hundreds and hundreds of hours of gameplay, it's hard to buy something you will beat in 10. I enjoy quality over quantity, but there are a lot of quality games with many more hours, and I'm guessing these short games will have DLC... I'll buy when it's a 'complete' game.

I think about the games I didn't buy during the sale for $5-10, then see them today for $20-40, I wonder why anybody buys them.

First time in a long time that I spent less than $60 total for Steam's holiday sale. This year I purchased:

Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms - a sleeper RPG. Good story, decent visuals, OK controls (can be played with a 360 pad). I recommend this as a buy for $20 or less.

Metal Slug X - It was $3, why not? I miss the old arcade cabinets!

D&D Chronicles of Mystara - I ran across this by accident, as I wasn't aware it even existed! I used to own this as a Sega Saturn import called D&D Collection. I love this game so I bought it for the nostalgic factor.

Batman: Arkham City GOTY Edition - I admit I never played any of the Batman games. I played and finished Mordor so I figured it's about time to pick this up. Most gamers say this is the best of the 3 bat games so far....

ME3, booyashakka!

Finally will pick that up.

this was one of the games i was hoping would be dirt cheap during this sale. like everyone else in the thread... not sure why i still buy all these games as i usually only have an hour here and there to play... so i never want to get into a game with a storyline. so i just end up playing things like MTG, hearthstone, sc2, etc. for a couple hours and call it a night.
