2-02-MONSTER1200.jpg

Testastretta 11°, L-Twin cylinder, 4 valve per cylinder, Desmodromic, liquid cooled. 1198.4cc

145hp @ 8,750 rpm
91.8 lb-ft torque @ 7,250 rpm

Tubular steel Trellis frame attached to the cylinders head

Ohlins fully adjustable 48mm usd forks

461 lbs (wet) - Kerb weights indicate total bike weight with all operating consumable liquids and a fuel tank filled to 90% of capacity (as per EC standard 93/93).

I'm definitely going to test ride this as soon as my local dealer has a demo model available.:wub:

Doesn't look too much different than my bike but the 1200 has a lot more power (my bike only makes 100hp), Ohlins suspension and a metal gas tank (which is a huge improvement with all the trouble Ducati has had with plastic gas tanks expanding due to ethanol fuel). The 1100 EVO I have weighs less and has a shorter wheelbase too.

You appear to have gotten lost in Italy while searching for a real man's naked bike. ;P

The Speed Triple is a tempting bike but the dual headlights look dated and the new Street/Speed Triple look ridiculous with the new angular headlights. It looks like someone ripped the plastics off a sportbike and left the headlights. It just looks unfinished...

This new Duc should be a wheelie monster. ;)

If I'm not mistaken, I thought naked/streetfighter bikes actually aim for this look, i.e. the whole "sport bike minus the plastic fairings" look?

I thought it was just the "ugly" look they aimed for.

I think this is accurate, depending on exactly how you define it. They are definitely going for a sporty look, but part of the appeal is to have more standard ergonomics. So while a Speed Triple may look like you just stripped the fairings off a Daytona, they're not the same thing. How much 'not the same thing,' I'm not quite sure...never seen a naked Daytona to make a comparison.

But it seems like, in general, the popular streetfighter bikes are all their own models, and not just a sportbike sans fairings. The Monster and the SV650 are the other two that come to mind most readily.

But I agree with Jules 100% on the new Triumphs. I'm normally pretty function-over-form, but I will admit that a lack of dual round headlights, as silly as it sounds, would be a complete deal-breaker if I was buying one. Beyond the lights, though, the whole bike just looks awkward. Just doesn't have the muscular, mechanical (but somehow still clean and simple) look of the older ones.

While i positively drool at the prospect of owning such a bike my money would end up getting spent on something like the new yamaha FZ09. Perfect replacement for the Tuono I still regret passing up.

I'm a round headlight kinda guy... what can I say. :p

The Speed Triple dual round headlight look has been copied by every guy who ripped the plastics off a sportbike for the past 15 years. Even the SV650 guys like to remove the round headlight and put the dual headlights on their bikes. I think it is kind of played out personally but what Triumph did to the Speed/Street Triple just looks like a poor attempt at modernizing the look. I'm not a fan, I prefer the dual round headlights to the new look. I don't think I could get past it enough to buy one personally.

I guess I can't say that the new ones look outright BAD...just disappointing in a relative sense.

If I saw one in passing, I would guess it was an Aprilia or something. Doesn't display the Triumph 'heritage.'

I am a fan of the L twin. I would much rather have that thump with the torque. I don't much care for the buzz of an inline motor anymore guess that's what owning a few Italian supermodels will do to you. Once you go red white and green nothing else will do.
