2013 Macbook Air 13" Complaint

Hi all,

Just purchased a new macbook air 13" base model. I sorta have a stupid complaint. When playing Candy crush on facebook, the game lags just as my 4 year old macbook did. You would think that Haswell would be able to run such a simple game on facebook flawlessly at this point....

The MBA is simply not that great compared to the intense ultrabook competition out there. Battery life is insane, but the screen is simply terrible compared to the rest. TN panel, low resolution, not sharp at all. It's barely passable IMHO and the reason I returned mine.

I suggest you wait for the Haswell x86 laptops to come out. They will have equal build quality, better screens, and more horse power.

I agree with everything you said about the screen. But with that aside, shouldn't there be enough horsepower underneath the MBA to at least run a game like Candy Crush at full speed? I was hoping I would be able to do CAD work on this machine as well....but if it can't run Candy Crush smoothly, I might as well not even try with AutoCad

The Air is a ultra thin machine designed for portability and low battery usage. Computer performance today is completely dominated by power consumption. Faster CPUs and GPUs consume more power and to support them you need more power consumption and cooling. The air like the ultrabooks are so thin that they use what in a desktop would be considered below the low end of CPUs. 1.6Ghz dual cores with HD 4000 graphics isn't exactly compelling spec wise, and certainly not for any form of actual gaming.

You're dealing with OSX so who knows why your framerate is limited. I always had wonky flash performance with my Mac laptops. A good test would be to run BootCamp on your Mac and see if the performance is still choppy in Windows.

It's more likely that the game is browser limited, flash limited or unoptimized in some other way. As suggested try another browser like chrome or Firefox.

Also try a windows computer and you may even try the game under windows on the MBA.
