2013 Honda Civic Si: Competition for the Ford Focus ST? - Motor Trend YouTube

Civic SI is a nice car, don't get me wrong. The insurance rates are through the roof on them though. It's a popular car with thieves. Probably selling them to chop shops, who sell parts to the ricers.

It's cheaper than the Focus ST and BRZ, which both push $30k.

I like the Si, but only until 2011 myself.
The 2.4 Si really pulls strong down low though, something no Honda fans are used to.

The problem is that that segment is just far, far too competitive. The SI isn't a bad car, it's just its competitors are often better.

Volkswagen GTI
Mazdaspeed 3
Ford Focus ST
Subaru WRX
Ford Mustang
Hyundai Genesis
Subaru BRZ/FRS

The SIs I've driven have been mostly unremarkable save for the excellent transmission.

But for the money? It's probably not even in the top 3. Hell, maybe not even in the top 5.

EDIT: Not to mention, probably the most forgettable styling of the bunch.

The last compro that I read put the GTI ahead of the ST. I guess VW made a lot of improvements for 2013.

Bumped from 2.0L to 2.4L and added a whole 4hp. Very slow for the segment. Still has chronic understeer. Not very communicative steering. Lower redline.

His only real praise for the car was "the Honda sound" which I do not consider to be praise.

I am thoroughly unimpressed.

Its a Civic first and a "performance car" second. Its a econobox that happens to be fast rather than a fast car that happens to be an econobox. Plus you know it'll go 200k without any issues.

Depends on your priorities and needs.

So basically they started making the RSX Type S again?

Not a bad thing, I suppose. I had wondered why Honda seemed to have removed themselved from the 'hot hatch' market. Even though it's not really a hatch; it fits the segment. The Civic does still have the liftback thing or whatever, though, right? As in, looks like a coupe, but rear window opens with trunk?

Funny how the Focus ST is the benchmark these days....Guess Ford does something right once in a while.

Not bagging on Ford as I have a F150 the wife has a Fusion and my son has 12 Focus SE....He craves the ST pretty badly at times tho.

I think the Focus has been a good benchmark for a while...we just didn't get it in this country. If I had to go back and do it over, I might have bought one instead of a Mazda3. Not even a fancy one; just the base. For reliability, even.

And Honda fooled me with the back end of that car...just assumed it was a fastback/liftback design. That's a shame, I liked how the back end of the RSX opened up. You don't get the space of a hatch/wagon, but you keep some of the utility.
