i'm not that familiar with car tech.

i know anything software that is v1.0, i wait till a patch (ie: v1.1) is out before i install.

do you think car manufacturers will have ESC down pat in 2012? or wait till 2013 for them to tweak based on feedback in 2012 models?

ESC in one form or other has been around for over ten years on various vehicles. Whatever 'bugs' there may be have long been worked out.

embedded systems such as an ESC controller are a different beast than desktop software. they get tested VERY thoroughly before being released....

Unless someone is giving me the car and paying for everything on it, nobody is mandating anything on *my* vehicles.

Well apparently *your* vehicles aren't going to be 2012 or newer.

Like CHMSL, lap belts, and pedestrian friendly bumpers? 😉

I hate this crap. My truck already has VSC that's on by default. I have to crank the car and then turn it off with an included switch to get it back to straight up rear wheel drive.

This is the wrong approach. No amount of computers is going to save us from shitty drivers. People need to learn how to drive.

Are you suggesting it doesn't work in the current state? If it wouldn't you'd have recalls left and right from every manufacturer, you're being a bit paranoid.

Every manufacturer has had the feature on their high end cars for years. It has been found to be very effective and is now being rolled out to the lowest end models on up. This doesn't add much weight as it uses the majority of the parts already on the car like ABS.
