Not sure what to make of this, yes, the milage is slightly high (60k), and they're manual transmissions which are a little harder to move (and I'm specifically looking for). But why in the world would they be so cheap? New Civics are > $18k.

Obviously I'll check Carfax for any issues, but if they check out, I might buy one this weekend.

I just want to make sure I'm not missing something here.

Why's the one with <60k miles $1000 less than the one with 70K miles?

And the Kelly Blue Book value for a 2012 Civic LX with a 5-speed manual and 70K miles ranges from $8500 for "fair" condition to 10600 for "excellent" condition, so I wouldn't say their price is extraordinarily low or anything. It seems to be on the low end of the KBB values.

Also, wasn't 2012 the bad year for the Civic?

Well the 2012 Civic wasn't actually a "Bad" car, it just wasn't as good of an improvement as Consumer Reports wanted.

Comparing it to older Civics...

2007 with over a hundred thousand miles for $9,700.

As for the 2012 thing, what was wrong with them? The blog write-up is kind of vague.

The 2007 you posted is an EX, which is a higher end model, so it's not really an apples to apples comparison. MSRP on a Civic EX is usually about $2500-3000 more than an LX.

As far as 2012, I think it just wasn't a very good year for the Civic compared to its rivals, and compared to previous years of Civics. Several reviews complained about the driving experience and low build quality, which might explain why the 2012 models tend to have lower resale value.

http://www.autotrader.com/research/article/car-reviews/204284/2013-honda-civic-new-vs-old.jsp

Following the groundbreaking and successful eighth generation 2006-2011 Civic, the popular compact car was redesigned for the 2012 model year, and it was obvious Honda had pulled cost out of the new version. Critics pounced. Honda reacted. As a result, the 2013 Honda Civic is substantially updated, effectively orphaning the all-new 2012 model as an anomaly in the history of the iconic nameplate.

Last fall, before the new 2013 Civic debuted at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, Honda warned its dealers to start clearing inventory. In a letter to dealers, David Hendley, Assistant Vice Principal of Honda National Sales, wrote: "With the unprecedented enhancements we have made to the current Civic after its first year in its cycle you will want to have little to no Civics on hand at arrival time of this refreshed 2013 model. The changes made to the 2013 model will make the outgoing 2012 Civic a difficult model to sell when they are side to side."

According to Wiki:
Reviews of the 2012 Civic have been generally lackluster, with many reviewers citing the car's cheap interior materials, along with worsened driving dynamics and insubstantial exterior styling changes from the previous generation, as drawbacks. Consumer Reports went so far as to remove the 2012 Civic from its 'Recommended' list of compact cars, which the vehicle had been on for many years.[21] In response, Honda introduced a heavily revamped Civic for the 2013 model year. The refreshed Civic sedan features a new front fascia with a U-shaped honeycomb grille and chrome accents (replacing the 2012 model's three-bar grille), a redesigned hood, and a reworked rear end with new taillight designs, along with additional light clusters and a chrome bar on the trunk lid. New standard features include a rear backup camera, Bluetooth controls, and Pandora Radio access. Ride quality, handling, and interior material quality are also improved. The coupe retains the 2012 model's exterior styling, but receives the same interior and engineering upgrades as the sedan.[22]

Honda CEO Takanobu Ito explained that the 2012 model was developed during the height of the global financial crisis, which led the company to believe that consumers would be willing to forego upscale content and quality in new vehicles so long as they were fuel efficient and affordable. Ironically, rival automakers such as Ford and Hyundai increased the quality and feature content of their compact vehicles around the same time, pushing sales of Civic rivals such as the Ford Focus and Hyundai Elantra to new heights in the United States.[23]
