The Mayan calender dosn't stop anymore than our calander "stops" at the 31st of January...let the ignornace die, thx.

Well according to lot of people, it does. The wheel or whatever format that was used, filled up, and there's no more room. At least that's what I'm guessing happens.

Of course, this means absolutely nothing. It's like trying to say that the numbering system ends because they found a cave painting of numbers and the guy stopped at 1 million. :p

Regardless it should be fun to see the kind of crazy stuff that happens that day because of people who believe in the end. Credit card companies are also going to enjoy it I'm sure.

No, that particular Mayan calendar is like an odometer, it's designed to roll over back to 0 not explode killing all of the passengers and driver.

They've since found another Mayan calendar that continues on until 3500 AD. We're saved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's good, they'll have to be quick at switching them out though, the period between the switch means the world comes to a standstill. Maybe when they pull off the current one they wont be able to put the new one in, because they'll have frozen too! It will be like Y2K, sit still and hope nothing happens!

Actually I think this would make an awesome movie. Have the mayan calendar be some kind of sophisticated computer system and the calendar part itself is like a big tape cartridge that comes out. Blue holographic of course. The mission is to find a way to swap out with the new one without ending the world. They come up with some robotic arm that is powered by a quartz crystal from another dimension because anything else will stop to sync. Of course it gets stuck half way a second before the old calendar ends. Then the world is saved!

Hey, it would be better than half the movies that come out these days! :p

I suppose the biggest questions remain...

On 12/22/2012 what will be on the roadmap for the next "end of days" scenario?

All these folks stockpiling food please do the right thing and give it to ones in need!

I don't know. The Mayan Calendar is the last doomsday date that's not in the distant future. That I know of, of course.

The end of the Unix Epoch, it will be more on the Y2K side though. Not a complete end of world, but all computers will fail. :awe:

Who's bright idea was it to use a signed int for that anyway? Had we used an unsigned long double or something it would not be a problem, at least not for a while longer. :D

I just shoveled my driveway today. I really should have waited till end of tomorrow just to make sure I don't do it for nothing. Oh well, at least if the world ends, what's left of my house will have a shoveled driveway. :awe:
