My googlefoo has failed me. Anyone know of a site where me and a group of friends can make our picks online similar to a private NCAA tourney pool, and then be able to see each other's ballots?

- do not want/need printable ballots as we won't be in the same location
- yes, fine, we're movie geeks (cue trolls/anti-establishment/"hollywood sucks" types, you're so clever)

No idea but I'm sure you'll find something.

Who do you like for Best Sound Editing? I'm torn between King's Speech and Social Contract, but my friends like True Grit. (former audio engineer/IATSE)

do you mean Social Network?

I would give it a fucking F in sound editing b/c of that garbage scene in the club where you hear nothing but fucking bass thumping sub garbage for 10 minutes during a conversation that is essentially muted. Though I guess that is more sound mixing--not editing. :hmm:

this overreliance on subs is freaking ruining film if you ask me. Yet another thing I can blame on the popularity of Michael Bay.

fucking terrible. 😡

😀

Social Network and mixing - sorry, yeah, my blood sugar is acting up today bigtime. I didn't mind that scene because I thought it captured the right feel - clubs are like that, and I liked the pacing, but I'll agree that you have a valid point.

I don't usually analyze a track I didn't work on, I just think either hey, good feel/I like that or whoa, bad stuff all over the place. I'm about to put a modest bet on one of those things, and I'm leaning towards True Grit but I personally liked the other two better.

for that, I would say True Grit or King's Speech. I liked SN overall with sound, but why too much sub throughout--I think they were trying to convey the fact that Zucerkburg is such a social misfit that everything and everyone is drowned out--his own internal white noise to keep the worthless peons at bay, as you will--but it was fucking annoying.

😀

that was cool; but the nightclub scene was completely pointless. It's a movie--you actually need to hear them talk if they are going to be talking. It gave me a headache.

my bet went on King's Speech. After all it's about "speech" which is sound, and I thought they did a great job playing with the subtleties of everyone's speech, slowly bringing up the tension and awareness of the way all the characters talked, and in general having a great time with all the voices they had to work with.

Also I happened to see it in a screening room with fantastic acoustics, and I saw the others in ratty theaters with questionable sound. Though if a movie can get great sound mixing across in a crappy theater, it deserves the highest award.
