Looks like a pretty good price.

Carfax says 0 accidents, 1 owner that leased this. 30K miles.

The dealer wouldn't budge one bit from $13,995 + $550 doc fee/registration + tax, even if I offered full cash.

Edmund's TMV from dealer is $14,514
KBB is $16K~.
Apparently Hyundai's warranty doesn't transfer, so it's sold AS-IS.

I can't find any other Sorento's in same mileage/feature for $13,999.

What are your thoughts?

You don't want it with the 2.4ltr engine, its the same one previously used in the Tucson and Sportage. It is very underpowered for a vehicle of that size.
Look for one with the 3.5ltr v6 instead.
Also Hyundai and Kia have CPO programs, that restore the original factory warranty to the vehicle.

Yes at $999, I wonder if that's worth it.

As for the power, I really don't mind it... unless it turns out to be really bad. That can be found out when I go to test drive it.

I've had my Sonata for 4 years now and have only had to really invoke the warranty once, for a paint issue.
One of my coworkers has a 2011 Sorrento EX with the 3.5 ltr and I don't think she has had any issues with it.

I test drove one, it struggled to get up hills and get to up to highway speeds, but once there it was ok.
The 3.5 had enough power to do everything without too much of an issue.

I've driven a lot of Sorrentos from that model year. Really nice SUV, but like the others said, the V6 is a best option. From what I've seen, fuel economy is about the same for the I4 and V6. Which makes sense because the I4 has to work harder to move the heavy vehicle.

Also, the one in the link is 2WD. You want AWD.

Other than that, they handle nice and are comfortable. My only really issue with them is cargo space. There's only about 1ft of space in the back with the third row seats in use.

Offer to buy it outright in cash is not a good bargaining technique. Dealers often get a kickback from loan companies for getting you a car loan. You're removing an additional source of profit from them.

How much is the doc fee? It should be around $50-75, but some will try to charge $500.

21 city / 29 highway vs 18 city / 24 highway

Not huge, but that's 18% better city and 21% better on the highway. For most this will equate to about $500 per year saved in fuel, or about $7000 over the entire life of the vehicle (asuming static fuel prices).

It's incorrect that "working an engine harder" reduces fuel economy. The closer an engine is to it's maximum power output, the more efficiently it extracts energy from gasoline. You get more power with a V6, but because it's running at a lower load, it's wasting more fuel.

Kia has made a ton of improvements to their car.....

I actually have a 13 Hybrid from them, and havent had any issue so far. The reviews were good, and the dealership I deal with is very fair... .

I would agree with CrackRabbit and see if you can get a CPO.... those make it so worth it in the long run
