accountant? Purse snatcher? Loan shark?

2010 Tax Year
Earned Income and adjusted gross income (AGI) must each be less than:

$43,352 ($48,362 married filing jointly) with three or more qualifying children
$40,363 ($45,373 married filing jointly) with two qualifying children
$35,535 ($40,545 married filing jointly) with one qualifying child
$13,460 ($18,470 married filing jointly) with no qualifying children

Tax Year 2010 maximum credit:
$5,666 with three or more qualifying children
$5,036 with two qualifying children
$3,050 with one qualifying child
$457 with no qualifying children

Not something I'd be bragging about quite frankly...

Not expecting much, definitely less than $500. Between only starting work in May, being single/not itemizing, and claiming (I believe) the correct number of exemptions (2) for withholding, I'll be surprised if I get much at all.

Still waiting on my W-2s though.

This. Single, no dependents, and making 50k+ = Bend over and take it from the IRS.

Have to do a VA file from my student job.
No TX file though!!!

It's this time of year that makes me wonder why I work so hard all year and pay so much in taxes. Sometimes I wonder if I should just join the club. Get a job making 15k a year, food stamps, govt housing, the whole deal. Tax time get myself a huge refund and splurge on whatever I want cause the govt has all the essentials covered.

Because, you will never get above that living standard if you don't try harder.

First can't file until all documents are in and that won't be until late Feb or mid March for me.

Second, I expect to write a check to "Eternal Revenue Service"
or as some prefer "Infernal Revenue Service"

Third, please fix topic title as it is the Year 2010 Return / Refund you are
filing come Apr 15, 2011

April 18th this year. The 15th is Emancipation Day and DC is closed.

Got 11k back last year, hoping/expecting another big return.

If this is on account of you having too much withheld during the year, then you are a bigger idiot than I (see Dave Ramsey thread).

If this is on account of business deductions or other accounting strategies, well then good for you.

Ugh, dave ramsey is big on ATOT too? I hear endless drivel from his stuff at work about how CCs are evil and everything should be paid for with cash but a house

Yes, I know it is really April 18, 2010 .. but I always think of the IRS due date as April 15

How can you get your 2011 refund when 2011 isn't even over yet?
I asked that same question in Post #72 .. and advised the OP to correct the post Title

I'll be getting back $1,600 total from the feds and state. I played with my deductions on my paycheck through out the year otherwise it'd be about $2,900.

I'm hoping for $4k total state and federal. This is the first year that I did 401k with my company since they cut it 3 months into starting in late 2008. I didn't really know what to expect deduction wise so I kept it the same as the year before. Also sold some dud stocks at the end of the year so investments will all be negative.

Business deductions. Goats died - business loss. Bought a tractor. Traveled several 1000 miles on business purchasing goats. (at 50cents per mile), etc. Spent a small fortune at tractor supply. Then, there's the rental property. Tenant leaves the money in the mailbox, so we have to travel to pick it up each month (keep track of the mileage.) Etc.

I think my company makes a game out of sending my W-2s at the last possible second. I envision someone with a huge box of W-2s hiding in the shadows, waiting until the last mail truck pulls into the station and sneaking them on there at 11:59:59.99 PM.

I let the max amount of my small paycheck go to the government each year but because of investments I tend to wind up owing about $100 federal and $20 state every year.

how the hell are you guys getting yours back so soon?
i didn't even receive my W2's yet.

All of my W2's and 1099s are online. :)

Well almost all of them. I got my mortgage interest letter two weeks ago, and one 1099 from the bank by mail last week. W2's have been available for 2 weeks already with ADP.
