2011 Hyundai Sonata may be my next car

to be honest I really don't like the look of it. That being said the interior looks very nice and I like the powertrain. I'm sure it will be a very solid car. Maybe the looks will grow on me.

I mainly look at the interior and tech parameters. It looks like that gen. of Sonata went through a lot of R&N - and that may indicate a great car overall...
+ It looks like Hyundai is trying very hard during the last few years - which I as a consumer appreciate a lot.

I completely agree with you on Hyundai's effort. I'm extremely impressed with their progress and would happily own one that hits all the buttons for me. I really hope they keep this up.

I'm not sure if I like the exterior. It looks sharp and it looks different, but I dunno, something about it. The interior looks great though, and overall I think it's going to be a nice car for the money.

I would definetly consider buying a Hyundai next time we're in the market for a car. Although, that will be in a few years, and at that time, I might be more inclined to go with the Genesis.

I saw one of these a few days ago at the subway next to my house (I live a mile away from Hyundai USA headquarters). It looks really....busy..... in person. Its like they took a VW CC, Merc CLS and a few other things and photoshopped it into one car. The front grill just looks a bit off and theres lots of stylistic details that are either unnecessary or not fully thought out, we'll see what happens

I think it's that line on the side of the car that I don't like. If that wasn't there, I would say it looks great. It definetly looks like a CC though.

Next few years will be a real test for Hyundai.

Hyundai could use lots of $$$ generated from Korean market (70% market share, lower quality, higher price, etc) for R&D and could improve the overall quality. While Hyundai lost money pretty much everywhere else, their net income was $ 3B in Korean market alone.

Now, its dominance is being questioned by growing concern from Korean consumers and Toyota's expansion to Korean market, it will be hard for them to make easy cash in Korea like they did before. Less money means less R&D, less promotion and worse quality. Hope they are being prepared.

I am currently driving 06 Accord Sedan with 5 speed manual, and the new Sonata looks like a current gen. Accord should have been (IMO):

The car looks great inside and outside. The power/fuel efficiency ratio is good, and a 6 speed manual is available...

According to the article the manual is only available on the base model.

Also, the gear ratios seem to favor both fuel economy in 6th + acceleration in 1st for the automatic.

It reminds me of the current BMW 3 series hit with the ugly stick a few times...

Not that it's ugly, it's just not as pretty

Looks VERY nice. Almost makes me regret buying a new Accord...almost.

Things I like: huge interior passenger/cargo room, awesome 4-banger powerplant (good power, great MPG), nice list of standard features.

Wonder what the sticker will be on a nicely loaded one with leather?

Being a Hyundai...I'm sure it will be more than reasonable price wise. I really do like the sound of the drivetrain and the interior at least looks good. Just can't get by the exterior styling.

The rear is a bit misproportioned. The distance between the top of the rear wheel arches and the bottom of rear side glass make for an ugly car imo

I'll have to reserve judgment on the body until I see one in person; I've read that it looks better in the flesh.

That said, the grill is ugly, I am not a fan of the chrome trim that connects the headlight to the A-pillar, the headlights are definitely close cousins of the Camry Solara (not necessarily a bad thing), I don't like the Volvo HVAC controls, and they actually sacrificed rear seat headroom for the new redesign.

You know what? I really like it. I am especially intrigued to see what they can do when they turbocharge it! http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/02/2011-hyundai-sonata-yf-regular-turbo-hybrid-los-angeles/

VW could take a page from Hyundai's book. VW has always been so focused on reducing cost above all else, while over the years Hyundai has been focusing on quality. Now Hyundai and good quality can actually be used in the same sentence without making a joke, and their cars are still inexpensive. They've realized savings from increasing quality. Meanwhile VW has some nice looking cars with good features at an OK price, but their quality is still miserable.
