And Toyota... at least round these parts. My sales guy (long time friend) at the local Toyota dealership tells me they're constantly getting customers that flat out tell them they're 50/50 on a Toyota vs Hyundai and most of the time they end up going to Hyundai... at least in the last year or two. You just can't beat the warranty and better quality they've been pumping out.
Agreed. The Sonata, in particular, appears to be a rather impressive piece of engineering - the four-cylinder engine has managed to pull off the neat trick of managing above-average efficiency, power (200hp ain't bad), and excellent reliability. Were they to somehow shove it in the Accent to make a sort of hot hatch, I'd probably buy one.
While fit and finish isn't quite up to the standards of Japan's best, Hyundai seems to have incorporated the latest technology - specifically, direct injection, amongst others - into their engines ahead of some of their competitors. This is likely a result of having far less invested into their technology than Honda or Toyota. In any case, the net result benefits the consumer most of all - Hyundai has great incentive to spend huge amounts on R&D, and all other automakers will in turn have cause to do the same in order to keep up.
The new Accent does look quite nice, though it is a bit of a Mercedes-Benz ripoff. That said, a C-class imitation is far better than its' predecessors, which I sometimes refer to as the Hyundai Accident.
