200pk dvd-r 30.65 shipped, shipping = usps.

this thread sucks . Who wants to buy slow no name disks that probably suck especially when now a days you can get a 50 pack of quality 8x media for $20. No thanks.

Plenty of Anandtechers have been happy with the 1-2X (which burn fine at 4X) blanks from Shop4tech. I've burned hundreds of those at 4X with no issues.

And as to the comment on the $20 50-pack, buy whatever you want, but $7 or $8 per 50-pack is quite a bit different than $20. I wouldn't archive a wedding on a cheapie, but for 98% of my uses, they are fine.

NOT ME!
I'm still trying to get rid of that 100 pack of crap I got from Shop4tech 3 months ago!
Not only do you have to burn it at 1X or 2x but you damn sure better verify the burn before deleting the original data. Cheap media is only cheap for those making minimum wage!

Go to bestbuy, they have 50 packs of memorex 8x -r media for $20. They also have 50 packs of Fuji 8x -r media for $20.

I can't complain with my 4x sonics at shot4tech. I have gone through almost 150 so far with only 2 corrupts and 1 non-reader...

LMAO, some burners are very picky on type of media while others like Liteon, Sony, Phillips, BenQ, Artec, NEC can tolerate generic media.
Why stick with only 1 type of burner, buy 2 or more and you will see that the media is not the problem but your brand of burner is the culprit.
I don't back anything up that is valueable so 1 or 2 bad out of a batch of 100 is still very good!!!

My optorite burner had problems reading scratched media, my liteon does not.

These media can infact burn at 4x or 8x just like with sonic's, I have read the reviews at pricewatch and that's what they said.

I agree somewhat with your opinion regarding different burners being able to handle cheap media better than others. I use Pioneer, Lite-On and Benq burners and if a DVD fails to read or write in one burner it may work in another. However, even though you may be able to successfully burn a few of these crap DVD's at 4x or even 8x the quality of the burn will always be marginal at best (run KProbe or CD/DVD Speed quality tests on a few of your burns and see what you get). This means that others that you share your DVD's with will more than likely end up with coasters or DVD's that just won't completely read or play on their PCs or DVD players. You can cut down on the number of coasters you create by not completely filling up the DVD. I prefer to spend a few dollars more and save myself and my friends the headache of watching a DVD movie for 2 hours and having the last 10 - 20 minutes stutter so bad you can't watch it!
Note: Amazon has some 100 packs of Verbatim +R 8X and -R 8X DVD's for $29.95 after a $30 rebate. They are taking pre-orders but when I checked them last night the expected ship dates were too close to the cut-off date for sending in the rebate.
