Really enjoyed that :D lol, you guys will love the 'british' accents lol

Brilliant stuff! No stupid suits, just DL and some guys with a belt.

The absolute strongest guy wins even though the other guys could probably do reps at a higher % of their 1RM...goes to show how absolute strength given the % he can smash it out!

I'll have a go tomorrow with 160kg...see how many reps I can smash out without letting go of the bar. Loved how they did not let go of the bar and as soon as you did that was your set over :D

I really don't like how a lot of power lifter types have a massive gut. It's just so aesthetically unappealing...not that I'm judging or anything :|

Impressive stuff. My form is fairly different from that displayed in the video, but even then, I'd be lucky to get 400kg once on a good day, given that my personal best right now is around 192 kg.

I'm guessing it's so that they eat and live in a way that energy is always available and in there for the lift (and contributes to an excess, therefore the gut).

Quite a few of those guys didn't have what you would call "textbook" form, but they got the job done without getting injured. Still wouldn't show this to someone as a instructional form video.

Yeah, plus they eat a mad surplus for recovery. On top of that, as overall bodyweight increases, so does strength. However, at low body fat percentages, it becomes very difficult to gain weight at some point. These power lifters make the body comp sacrifice and just gain general weight (both fat and muscle).

I don't quite know what you mean about available energy for lifting though. Not even glucose is directly utilized for a max effort lift so fat is irrelevant in providing energy. The gut also, very importantly, changes the individual's center of gravity, allowing for a much better driving point and counterbalance to the weight.

I don't know very many powerlifters that lift with textbook form.

Its kinda a necessary evil of being a powerlifter in the higher weight classes. At a ceratin point it gets pretty hard to gain pure muscle - and they're stronger when they're heavier, even if a lot of that extra weight is fat.

Bolton looked like he was just screwing around. He did just enough to have the highest rep count and then just dropped the bar.

Yeah, from what I've seen in my limited experience, I'd agree. But again, not taking anything away from them--it's all basically just a matter of what your particular goals are. In the case of the video, the goal was simply to, as you've said, get the job done by moving as much weight as possible without getting injured.

As mentioned above, even with this kind of form, there's no way I'd be able to rep out 200 kilos.

Indeed Deeko.

lol @ the form, yeah sure not f0cking ideal but lets see ANYONE HERE smash out reps with 200kg...yeah thought so...no takers...

They could 'all' show you 5reps at 200kg with perfect form but that wasn't the point of the video. The video was just a bunch of guys seeing who could put up the most reps with 200kg :D

Remember guys, NO POINTS FOR STYLE. As long as your safe thats good. These guys aren't jokers, they have a ridiculous amount of training behind them.

The gut comment, yeah they eat too much, but they aren't fitness models, bodybuilders. Their goal is completely different. They can put up a lot of weight!

Speaking of which, has anybody else seen that article on Dave Tate and his weight loss? It has some of his lipid panel stats and body fat percentages... He was strong as hell, but good God, that man is going to die early from a heart attack. Even after reducing his weight by like 40lbs (of nearly all fat), his total cholesterol was over 300 when it should've definitely be less than 200. Sometimes the sacrifices people make aren't worth the consequences...

I respect Tate's accomplishments, but he definitely has made far more sacrifices than I'd ever be willing to. The number of (serious) injuries he has sustained - torn hamstrings, pecs, herniated 8 discs, knee issues, shoulder issues, etc - is sickening. It makes my stomach turn just thinking about it, which isn't helped by reading about what his diet used to be (10,000+ calories/day) and the crazy diet he used recently to get pretty shredded. He clearly takes everything to an extreme far beyond where I'd ever be willing to go. But I guess that's why I spend time reading about him and not the other way around :)

BTW, pretty funny video. For those who commented about these guys being "fat", you need to realize that eating a hell of a lot seriously helps recovery from weight lifting. Moreover, a big stomach in particular provides an enormous amount of stability/leverage, which is essential for the weights these guys are squatting/deadlifting.
