I purchased a WD 200gig drive which I then mounted in a External Drive Enclosure. This enclosure connects via USB2.0.
Windows XP is showing it as only 128gigs. Any idea of what the problem is?

Thanks

Yep, your system might not support the "greater than 137GB" barrier (doesn't have 48-bit large LBA support) . How new is your computer? Are you running the latest bios for your motherboard? Are you hooked up through a pci USB 2.0 card or is it integrated onto the mobo?

ozone, I think you're correct, but for the wrong reasons. If he's running WinXP SP1, he should be able to see all of the drive, unless the enclosure itself doesn't support 48bit LBA.

The machine is fairly new. It's a Dell, purchased Nov. 2002. The USB2.0 is not a PCI, it's "on board". I just updated the Bios today with no change. I'll have to check about the service release though.

The harddrive enclosure was to be the next thing to check. You have to agree that since he didn't post his specs beforehand, you first need to eliminate the obvious. Yes, Winxp natively supports larger than 137GB....but only if the hardware supports it as well.
