200GB NCQ -or- 250GB 16mb

The latter is a Maxtor right?

Maxtor = teh noes.

Therefore, i'll choose the 400 GB Seagate Barracuda, since 200 GB is too small 😉

Standalone or for RAID 42?

I'd pick WD over Maxtor right now, in the last year or so people have been complaining a lot more about poor reliability of Maxtor drives.

I prefer Samsung and Seagate over WD but WD's main failing is some drives are noisy.

Seagate > * (because 5 year warranties are great)

Honestly, NCQ won't help you that much unless you are running a server. 16MB cache would be much better. I believe the next gen Seagate drives have 16MB cache?

The WD drive pictured above has 16 mb cache. I'd pick that one over the Maxtor (ewww, Maxtor.) Actually I was planning on buying a new SATA HD to replace my 160 GB PATA, and I was planning on ripping my music collection to it (uncompressed. w00t.) so I'm thinking I might just pick up that WD... 16 mb cache. awesome.
