200gb HD = 189gb ???

I'm in the drive manager (winxp) and it shows that my new 200gb Maxtor has 189gb of unallocated space...is this correct? Where is all the extra space going to?

Windows identifies the drive as: 194474mb in the drive properties, but only shows that 189gb of that is "unallocated".

spaces between sectors on a track take up some space plus 1kb = 1024 bytes becuase thats the closest to 10^3 youll get with binary
