2009 Sonata is looking better...good review as well

Not bad. Worth a test drive for anyone in the market, especially at Hyundai prices. And that model has been around for a while now with no major reports of reliability problems or recalls, so the kinks are probably all worked out.

People give Hyundai a hard time, but they forget (or never knew) that Honda was the Hyundai of the 80s. If Hyundai continues on their current path, they'll eventually lose the stigma. Some of their more recent cars look quite nice, are damn cheap and are apparently very reliable. A combination that should lead to great success in the future.

The More You Know.

Hyundai is making huge strides. The real tale will come with the Genesis. If it's as good as the numbers say it is, for the price they say it is, then look for some huge sales for them.

Even considering the fact that I hate Hyundai (Because I am Korean and I know how they rip off the buyers in Korea with their monopolistic market share in Korea), it seems 09 Sonata has fine interior with worth-to-try performance.

While I have liked the Sonata for a few years now, I am really looking foward to seeing the 2009 Elantra Touring (5 door hatchback).

Biggest problem for me is the deprecation for the first 2-3 years. If you plan on keeping one forever then they are worth a look.

I have an '05 Elantra GT hatch, and I think the new Elantra Touring looks good, definitely better than the sedan. The interior quality is also a lot better. If I were in the market for a new car it would be on my short list.

[edit]

To stay on topic, I really like the new Sonata. I had an earlier model as a loaner once and it was very nice... this update only makes it better IMO.

I am in the middle of a 5-day rental of a 2008 Sonata and let's just say that I would not add this car to my list. My Plus/Minus list would include:

Pluses:
- Pickup is acceptable
- Gas mileage seems to be good but have not yet refilled the tank
- The ride is smooth but a bit spongy

Misses:
- Inferior interior, cheap everything
- The worst sounding sound system I've ever heard
- The spongy ride
- The driver sits too high

The car does what it is supposed to do and definitely no more. It has an air of cheapness to it that leaved me wishing for more, much more. I used to complain when Budget/Avis gave me a 2007 Accord but che Sonata is so much more blah ...

My wife's 2007 Civic is so much more car for the money than the Sonata, I wonder why anyone would even consider it at a price difference of less than $4,000.

Hey guthram...

Nice apples and oranges comparison.

the 2009 is the new version and has been greatly revamped, including the lackluster interior..might want to read the actual review.

Because its $4,000. Hardly a small difference when you consider the price of the vehicle is $18,000. Thats almost 25%

i work pretty close to hyundai/kia design center in irvine, ca and they've been driving the genesis around that area a lot lately. car looks really good in person. my co-worker thought it was lexus haha.

One of my colleagues had one as a rental (current model) and I have to say I was fairly impressed...especially when compared to the Chrysler crap I had been drving a lot of as rentals.

I have to say though...the outside styling is pretty bland. Of course, that's pretty par for the course in that market segment. I would much prefer a Malibu for looks.
