There is a certain element of truth to it, though. If two cars get the same quarter mile time, but car A gets it at a higher top speed, it means that car A may have traction or powerband issues at low speed, but really starts picking up once it gets moving (ie higher power).

For example, my motorcycle is listed as a 12.5 second (@101 mph) quarter mile, which is quite fast indeed. Yet that's almost entirely due to low-end acceleration...it starts feeling dog slow once you get up to freeway speeds. Top speed is maybe 115 mph? In a 1/2 mile drag, it wouldn't be competitive at all.

Pretty much any car that runs a 12.5 will have a higher trap speed, higher top speed, and much better acceleration above 50 mph than my bike. You wouldn't know this just from looking at the ET, but trap speed would clue you in.

Bikes are plenty fast to keep up and top speed is nowhere near 115mph, I have taken mine up to 120mph trying to catch up to some people going 165 topped out on a gsxr600.
Stupid of me of going that fast, but I stopped at 120mph because it gets scary after that..

Trust me, on my bike the power's OVER at 90. The only way I could break 115 is downhill with a good breeze. Sport bikes are different. Still even on sport bikes, high-speed pulls are more impressive on cars, low-speed is more impressive on a bike.

According to the numbers, I could take pretty much anything on the road in a quarter mile, but any decent sports car could walk me on a freeway pull.

Well, I dont really have much experience over other bikes other than sportbikes. I still remember the first time I opened up the throttle on that baby. The feeling is amazing...
It still is pretty scary how much power first gear has.
