Yeah, car is overall nice. Interior is good, exterior is good, just needs that power bump. (not sure about reliability)

The current engine probably has a really nice hp/torque curve but still....

Looks nice but lacks power, 250hp would of been a nice number to achieve.

One could chip it for ~$400-500 and bingo, 250hp.

That's aftermarket. Totally different story. It should have that power out of the box. Even the R32 is slow compared to it's competition. GTI needs at least 250hp and R32 needs at least 300hp.

What's the R32's competition? It's not the EVO or STI...

them some ugly ass rims

I disagree, I think they look hot

on another note, can I ask a serious question....why do VW enthusiasts feel the need to refer to their car as MK7, MARK V...etc etc

Just call it what it is...a 2007 Jetta

It's no different than BMW enthusiasts referring to their models as E36, E46, ect. It's a defintion of a model run, not a model year. Especially helpful when VW has a tendency to overlap products in the same model year.

I can see how that would be useful, as on BMWs, there are overlaps that occur. EG; 1999 M3 = E36, 1999 323i = E46.

It's just as useful on VWs.

I know what a MK1 is, and it's easier to remember than remembering what years that generation falls in. I imagine a lot of people know what a MK4 Jetta is, but unless you said, "I have a 1999.5 Jetta", you could just as easily have a MK3 run.

It's competition is cars in the low-mid twenties which is sad.

I don't think fastest times in a straight line is what VW is aiming for. They fill a different niche of the market. I appreciate that. For starters, one may not like the low end torque of a Honda, or the stylings of the cobalt ss, WRX09 and etc... I like the R32 as well and could see myself picking it over an STi or EVO even for around the same price. It has a COMFY, refined interior and yeah, it's a little slower but I've gotten over needing the fastest car that can beat everyone else...

I'm no fanboy, but after recently researching and test driving a bunch of cars/weighing my options.
Everyone has a diff tastes and desires so I welcome the options that VW offers by making the car the way they did

Also, I've seen a video on youtube where a GTI outruns a 2008 WRX during a test...Top Gear knock off I believe. Anyways, even if it was driver fail, it shows they ain't all that bad (but I guess those subies weren't that good). But yeah, if you REALLY wanted 250 (meaning it'd sway your choices) then just get a quick ECU flash to stage 1...

250HP through the front wheels would totally alter the character of the car, i think VW is going with a more civilised character with their GTI, sure other manufacturers have gone that route, but i'm not sure its one VW should go down, for .6 seconds or so less to 60.. I agree about the R32 though, it could maybe do with a little more power.
